My wife and I had left two other restaurants earlier this evening being underwhelmed and dissatisfied. I realize this might make us sound picky, but if it makes The Crave sound like they're worth the trip, then mission accomplished.
The food, atmosphere, and price is all on the higher side, but not outrageous. The servers all seem to have a particular standard they follow. Not in routine, but in class. Our server this evening was well put together, and had a certain professional personality to him. In addition, he was practical and even had a good sense of humor.
The food was great. It's well presented, and great tasting. We got 3 appetizers to share. The Shrimp Tempura was great. It's cooked sushi (I'm not an expert), and was served flat down on the plate, opposed to as a sliced roll. In my opinion, I've never seen sushi sent back, so they met the standard. We also had the pork egg rolls. They have a solid fill with good flavor. The exterior is, as expected, like an egg roll. It came with a sweet and spicy sauce, which was great! They are on the larger side and served as a pair, cut in half, which makes for service sized for 4 people. Finally, we got the Firecracker Shrimp. The Crave has great Firecracker shrimp! It's mostly breaded shrimp and the sauce, and I think there is some other vegetables and spices mixed in with them. Unlike some other restaurants though, it's mostly breaded shrimp without much else.
While I think this is a personal issue, it was a little tough to fit everything on the high top table without nocking anything off. In fact, our eggroll sauce became a casualty to this, so if you're thinking of getting a meal, make sure not to take a high top table for 2.
The place was a little busy, so it was understandable that the service wasn't 100%, but it was good enough. At the end, we were even given damp, hot wrapped wash cloths for our hands. Apparently, we came during happy hour, so we got happy hour prices on some of the food. I think the total bill, which included a glass of wine, was around $60. For the service, atmosphere, and food quality, it...
Read moreWent to dine here yesterday with a friend, got sat at the both in the back, sat for 45 minutes without being served, a very nice server assistant gave us water but that was it, turned out the host messed up and sat us in a section the server was cut, no big deal, we hardly noticed as we hadn’t seen each other in a while and I myself have been a server for 6 years now and I understand things happen, then a server finally came over and I ordered at aviation and the server asked me for my ID as she should but I had left my wallet at home on accident and just had cash and a front and back picture of my ID and she very rudely said i dont take picture IDs and just walked away without us ordering literally anything, came back probably 30 minutes later, we ordered are apps which were the fries, firecracker shrimp, and the bamboo bite roll, took forever for the apps to come out at that point we were just going to leave and as we were about to get up the apps came, reminder my friend and I both have been to many craves over the years so we know what it’s supposed to look and taste like. The shrimp was extremely undercooked I don’t even think they cooked them? The fries were cold and hard. And the roll smelled bad. We told the waitress and she just took off the shrimp and just disappeared again. At that point we just payed and left. Never had that bad of an experience going out to a crave:/ I will not be returning to the Roseville location, I will say for anyone looking for an alternative the Woodbury location is excellent!!! Too bad the Roseville location used to be pretty good, so sad to see it, the host, server and honestly the cooks need to be retrained. Or just let go. ALSO I SEE NOW THAT THE OWNER ONLY ANSWERS THE GOOD REVIEWS very disappointing. I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO THIS CRAVE UNLESS YOU WANT RAW FOOD AND...
Read moreCrave? Not so much. Unfortunately we had a bad experience both with the food and service. It’s important to note that the server is not entirely to blame, but she was doing double duty as the bar tender, so her attention was divided - all the while there was both managers and a hostess standing around. When we got to our table, the menus were scattered around on the table and in the seats of the chairs. My soda arrived, but it tasted like it was about half syrup. Our food did arrive quickly. Unfortunately the nigiri did not taste particularly fresh, and the octopus (which is by nature chewy) was difficult to eat because it was cut so thickly. The steak was fine. Soon after completing our meal the check was slid on table without comment, despite never being asked about deserts. we had to call the staff back to order cake ( it was our anniversary) and it felt like we were being rushed out despite them being open for another hour. Looking over the bill while waiting for the cake, we noticed the “surcharge.” We waived down the manager who had been standing around much of the meal and to ask about it he pointed out that they charge that to pay staff ( it was buried on the menu) - I know they are not unique in this, but I wish restaurants would just pay staff the wage and price accordingly. Our waitress stoped by and asked we were ready to pay yet . We had not payed out our card yet, as we never received an updated bill - she informed us she already added it and seemed surprised we wanted to see the tab before handing over our credit card. Cake was good. Overall disappointing night, but since the cake was good and the steak ok - two stars instead of one. Note: I’m leaving some stuff out...
