My fiancé and I flew from Orlando and other guest came from long distant to celebrate my brother Nicholaus’ 42nd birthday at Ruth’s Chris in Roseville on March 27th. We made a reservation for 15 people, specifically told them it was a birthday celebration, and requested a private room, which we were told would be available.
We arrived at 8:30 p.m. instead of 8:00 due to some guests mistakenly going to the Sacramento location first. We called ahead and were told it was no problem. Yet upon arrival, they showed us our table, I asked about the private room and was told it was not available, despite an almost empty restaurant. I was disappointed because I had hosted an event here 2022 and they gave us one. Still we took our seats and was ignored for 15 minutes. No one offered water, bread, or even acknowledged us. I had to go to the front desk twice before anyone came over. It took another 10 minutes to bring water. By then, my friend’s fiancée, who had ordered sparkling water, left in frustration and told the four guests who were on their way not to come due to how we were treated. That’s why only 10 of us stayed instead of the planned 15.
She had already warned us not to go to Ruth’s Chris, having experienced similar treatment before. I insisted we go anyway because of my past positive experiences here. That’s what makes everything all the more painful.
Throughout the night, service remained cold and inattentive. Our waiter barely spoke to us, made no eye contact when passing and only once acknowledged my brother when he was politely introducing himself and saw his name on the cake. After that, we watched him smiling, laughing, and volunteering to take photos for a nearby table. Yet was blind to seeing us trying to take a selfie of ourselves. Requests like straws had to be made multiple times. When we tried to order, they were out of multiple items including the T-bone steak and mashed potatoes. The fries they brought were cold. My fiancée and I are vegetarians, and despite Ruth’s Chris having limited options, we sacrificed and still came to celebrate, we ended up sharing a linguine pasta just to be part of the night.
In the end I had to walk down the waiter to pay my bill, after he walked passed us again without any eye contact while taking up lights off the tables. The final bill came to $945. I left an 18% tip ($171) even though I normally tip 22–25% because I was once a waiter myself. I believe in tipping well, but for good service. I never leave bad reviews, just check my history. But this experience was beyond disappointing. If I ever return, it will only be because of Jessica. She wasn’t assigned to our table, but she was the only one who showed us kindness: checked in, smiled, took our group photo, and treated us like human beings. None of the waiters acknowledge us after dinner or thank us for coming and celebrating with them. Only Jessica thanked us again after we were walking out. This made our night because the whole time we thought our mistreatment was because we were black, but Jessica was white, this made us reconsider and think probably our head waiter was having a rough night because we are all humans.
We ended up going to Red Lantern, a Chinese restaurant, the next night and they gave us the birthday celebration Ruth’s Chris failed to deliver. Our waiter saw our cake and brought it in the back and came out singing happy birthday with other staff with it lit up.They made us feel happy and like family. The language barrier didn’t matter; the heart did.
We’re kind people. We came in joy and celebration, and left feeling unseen and unwelcome. I still wish I could take that night back, for my brother and for everyone who sacrificed to...
Read moreTake it from someone who has worked in this kitchen and witnessed the atrocities of what they do here...this restaurant is DISGUSTING and there is a GREAT CHANCE that you will become sick if you eat at this location due to their improper food safety practices.
The "cooks" here have absolutely NO COMPREHENSION of what cross contamination or food safety is.
Especially the cook on grill named SELENA.
Numerous times I witnessed SELENA cut a raw steak with her knife...and then minutes later use the SAME knife and SAME cutting board to cut a freshly cooked steak, prior to plating and serving.
When I first saw her doing this, I stopped her in a panic and said "No! That had raw meat on it!"
At first SELENA would just flip the cutting board over, using the dirty bottom side, as if that made it any less unsanitary...but then after a few days of me stopping her and correcting her from cross contaminating steaks she was about to serve to customers...she seemingly got irritated and just started ignoring me, continuing to put freshly cooked steak down on the cutting board that just had raw meat all over it minutes prior. No cleaning or sanitizing in between.
The literal definition of cross contamination.
Most restaurants use TWO separate knifes and cutting boards. ONE for raw meats, and ONE for cooked meat. That's how you prevent your customers from getting sick!
Not Ruth's Chris at Roseville Galleria Mall!
They don't want to mess up their ticket times by using proper food safety measures, so you'll just have to eat at your own risk! Even though you're paying hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for your bill 😂
Just pure laziness and ignorance 🤦🏻
Not to mention they don't even let the steaks rest like they're supposed to before they temp check or cut them for plating! SELENA said "Yeah they want us to do it that way but nobody has time for that" 😂
Oh and that Hollandaise sauce that you've been eating here is made with unfiltered tap water from the same dirty sink that the cooks wash their hands in. SELENA laughed when she told me how the Health Department doesn't want them to do it that way, but she continues doing it anyways, seemingly because she's too lazy to walk an extra 10 feet to the sink on Pantry station..even though that's just dirty unfiltered tap water too...but at least it doesn't have all the extra germs and bacteria from people washing their hands in it 🤷🏻
If that wasnt bad enough, they even have black mold growing on the inside of the red colored recipe binder that they keep on the Grill station. I pointed it out multiple times to SELENA but I was scoffed at and ignored as if it wasn't a big deal 😂
I got treated like garbage by the "cook" who was supposed to be training me, for pointing out all of the health code violations and trying to make sure we were adhering to proper food safety and food handling procedures so that customers would not get sick.
Oh yeah BTW...ALL seafood (Lobster Tails, Scallops, Salmon, and Sea Bass) ALL come frozen, NEVER fresh. They are defrosted directly under unfiltered tap water in a sink, and then cooked and served to you for an excessive price.
I've seen fast food restaurants managed better than this joke of a kitchen.

Read moreI dined last night about 5:30 I was staying in a hotel close by. I did not have a reservation but the place was at a medium crowd. When I told the hostesses one for dinner they were not very friendly and I felt like I was imposing on them. I waited for a table that turned out to be in the bar in a booth that was not completed for seating but the hostess told me to go over anyway and basically seat myself, I felt uncomfortable and embarrassed. The hostess couldn't be bothered to seat me or even bring a menu. The First impression a customer sees is the front of the house and little did she know I used to work for this very location year's ago. Every person that comes in and dines in your restaurant whether they are a couple, a group, or a single person like myself having dinner, is entitled to be treated the same way and not shuffled off like they're in the way. At $121.00 for dinner which is a pretty expensive price and considering the atmosphere it's high end, the customers expect to be treated well when they walk into a restaurant like this. I was treated very rudely at the front and dismissed and I didn't appreciate it. However my server a young man was very attentive, very courteous, and made the meal a lot better just by his kindness. The food was very good I had been looking forward to coming here for quite some time. I had a filet and a Caesar salad with a very nice glass of Chardonnay. However I felt very uncomfortable in the atmosphere shoved off in a corner. I had just lost my husband 3 months ago to cancer and it was one of the first times I've been out to dinner by myself in sometime. Courtesy and treating the customers that come in the door with kindness goes a long way instead of being dismissive, bored, and too busy chit-chatting with your second half to show that attention to detail. It seems these days if you have a pulse you have a job. What these young ladies at the door don't understand is the customer coming in is why you have a job and a paycheck. If you can't be bothered to do the job that you're being paid to do then maybe you should work at McDonald's. I'm sorry but I probably won't return to this restaurant again. First impressions are a big deal. I think these young ladies need to pay attention to detail and treat every single customer that comes in that door the same way whether they have a reservation or they do not. I expect to pay a little more in a place like Ruth Chris and in turn I don't like being made to feel like I'm imposing because I was a single person for dinner instead of a couple. It would have been nice to be offered a table in the dining room which they did not offer. Had it been a Friday or weekend, I would have understood. It was a Tuesday evening at 5:30 and no wait at the door. I hesitated to give this review but I think for the money I paid last night I shouldn't have been made to feel...
