Kawaii Shaved Ice — Restaurant in Round Rock

As a long time resident of Round Rock, I have visited Kawaii Shaved ice many times over the years. For the snow cones and the water and ice service. After an encounter with their staff today, I will never visit this establishment again. They have lost a repeat customer.

My family and a few friends attended a private event across the street at The Flats. It was private child’s birthday party at the venue prior to their opening to the public. When we arrived , their was construction going on at the street and the parking lot behind Kawaii shaved ice was closed down, so we parked in one of the four open spots at Kawaii shaved ice. We attended the party, The Flats was not serving any alcohol during the event. After the event ended, my family and some friends that arrived late were still at the Flats, catching up after not seeing each other for over a year due to COVID. As we were chatting, the manager of The Flats approached us and notified us that if anyone was parked at Kawaii Ice, they would be towed soon. We didn’t notice the “towing enforced” sign when we arrived, and decided that we should leave to avoid being towed.

When we got to our cars and were packing up children in two different cars, an employee from Kawaii ice approached us and verbally berated and insulted us in front of their patrons , the general public, and our children. It was like a 10-year old child who didn’t get their way was throwing a tantrum. It was completely unprofessional and disrespectful to people who have been repeat customers for years. We were actually planning on getting a snow cone before we left for our son, but before I was even able to walk up to order one , I was verbally assaulted and treated like a criminal for daring to park in one of their spots for a few hours. When I arrived, the lot was closed. When I was leaving, the lot was open and there was plenty of parking available for potential Kawaii customers. There was several hours of potential time for their staff to communicate the issue. Within 10 minutes of the manager of The Flats informing us, we were getting in our cars, and it was this moment that their staff chose to come out and berate us for parking at their place.

It was absolutely and completely unprofessional and reflects the “attitude” of Kawaii ice that some other reviews have expressed.

Worst experience today. I'm very disappointed with the customer service at this place. I don't know what happened. This place used to be amazing. I have been going to this place since before it even had a building. Yet today, waited in line for over 30 min, not a big deal (like I said I loved this place) realize I only have $5 cash so I order the biggest cup to make it enough for my 3 kids, hand them my cash and realize the "we do not accept cards" sign wasn't up anymore. So, i ask the young lady if they take cards now, she says "yes, but it will be extra to use a card" (no big deal either, understandable) Thought about ordering more to have enough for my 3 kids but since she was in such a hurry and had already put my cash in the register, I decided not to add more and make her do a whole new order. Get my order and ask for 2 extra small cups and I get eyes rolled at me and a short "yea" comes back and says sorry we are out of the small cups. Yet I'm staring at small cups right in front of me. So i tell her I'm looking at the small cups right there. She asks me how many i need, I say 2, she tells me that if i want the cup by itself I would have to pay $3 for EACH EMPTY STYROFOAM CUP. Are you kidding me?!?! $6 for 2 SMALL EMPTY STYROFOAM CUPS!!?!?! I ask for the managers name. I leave, call the store, ask for Rachel. Person who answers tells me Rachel isn't there, I ask for whoever is in charge, she tells me okay, here's Rachel. (Okaaay 🤔)I explain the situation and ask why I was being charged $6 for 2 SMALL EMPTY STYROFOAM CUPS. I tell her how I have never been charged for extra small cups and even if they wanted to charge me fo the cups why I was being charged $6. Her response was well whoever hasn't been charging you for those cups was wrong. So I ask her "So you're telling me that you're okay with charging your customers $6 for 2 EMPTY STYROFOAM CUPS?!?! Response was "yea i guess" then they put me on hold with not another word said.....

I've never had shaved ice before and the kids wanted to go Pokémoning on Main Street in Round Rock so I planned this stop. It was a refreshing stop and very flavorful. It's tucked back just a little bit so while watching traffic on Mays St you might miss it. Traveling north, it's on the corner of E Liberty and Mays Street (just past Main Street). The parking is a little tight. There are tables and benches to sit on in the shade (tables at the time of our visit needed to be wiped down) and a full menu of flavors and items to choose from. Thankfully someone had posted pictures on the internet of the menu so we could get an idea of what we were going to be choosing. The girls behind the counter were friendly and served us quickly. There is a Pokéstop there so we stayed and enjoyed our flavored ice while spinning the stop and catching Pokémon. The prices were decent, service was good, and it was tasty! I took a few pictures to include with my information about Kawaii Shaved Ice. I can't report on their hours as I found conflicting photos of the hours on the internet and they do not keep up with their FB page or have a website. We visited after 2P on a Monday.
