I had a chance to attend a virtual testing session, So I decided to pick up one of the home tasting kits they have available. We had a chance to participate in a zoom class at this virtual event and it quite fun! Steve Burch hosted the call and he did an excellent job talking about the wines and the mission statement that Acheson is trying to achieve with locally sourced and environmentally friendly wines.
Let me say, it was nice to see the level of candor that Steve had with the wine tasting group and there wasn't a dull moment during the session. He talked very openly and honestly and it was nice to have a conversation with a winemaker that felt personal even thought it was on zoom with quite a few other people I did not know. I was also able to to talk to Jared when I picked up my wine and he was also extremely knowledge. He refered go himself as a introductory sommelier and he really does know his stuff and provided quite a bit of information as Steve lead the session.
As for the wines, I am a hardcore novice at tasting (drinking is another matter) but it was nice to try a local midtown establishment and I enjoyed the the whites and the single red we decided to go for. My wine choices are like my temperament which ping pongs from one end to the other but I loved the three seasons rose and the Solon Blanc. I would definitely recommend those for those something that is a bit lighter and fruity. Whatever your tastes they have a nice variety in their wine tasting kits that allow you to try 4 wines at 40 dollars. This is definitely something to take advantage if you miss being able to taste a winery and enjoy an at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been to this winery before, but it has been awhile. We were cat sitting in the apartments above the winery, so we liked the idea of enjoying a glass of wine here one evening during our stay. There was a flyer in the apartment lobby advertising the winery and highlighted their all day happy hour on Monday. We have a lot going on in our lives at the moment, so we planned several days in advance to make sure we could enjoy the happy hour on Monday. When we went there though, we were charged full price for our wine. We mentioned the promotion and we were told that they don't do that on holidays. Since it was a holiday, we paid the full price, but we were irked by the incident. We looked at the flyer on our way back to the apartment and it mentioned nothing about holidays being excluded. We noticed that they also had the flyer posted on their counter at the winery. One would think they would at least take these down if they weren't going to honor it. The wine here is good, it just ruined our experience to feel like we were being taken advantage of. We decided that we would verbally confirm any deals or promotions before we place our order in any future situations like this, as it seems to be happening more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI take my dogs to the dog park every day and pass Acheson most days. As a wine lover an frequent patron of the Napa Valley and surrounding regions I tend to be snobbish. A few das ago our neighbor asked us to join him at Acheson, what a delightful surprise. Sustainable and organic wines donāt always reflect the best use of the grape but Acheson has hit a home run. They believe in sustainability and use refillable wine bottles that are clear so they are no easily recycled. The wine is modestly priced and quite frankly very good. My favorite was the Midtown Roseā which I usually lean toward French wines for. Light and breezy with a mild dry finish, the perfect summer wine. We will be joining and getting onto the growler program. If you are anywhere near Sacramento it is worth the trek⦠great vibe, nice people, and good wine, who could...
