Get here soon, because this spot is sure to be a hit! Great food, stellar vibes. Here's the run down:
Vibe - Went at around 6 on a Friday and sat at the bar in the front room, but there's also a more bar-like bar in the back that looked cool. There were still a few 4- and 6-top tables open when we got there (and they offered them to us), but since we only had 2 people, we didn't want to take up the real estate.
Drinks - We got beer (Knee Deep's Breaking Bud IPA, but they had a decent selection on tap). They also have a lot of great looking cocktails that I can't wait to try!
Food (Pro-tip: order the corn cheese and then put it on top of everything else!)- Corn cheese - it's basically like canned corn with shredded cheese on top (mozzarella maybe?) and they torch it table side. There was also a version that comes with crushed hot Cheetos on top. Mandu - deep fried beef dumplings that taste a lot like a really good egg roll. They come with a soy dipping sauce that is a perfect amount of salty balance Kimchi pancake - okay, I am a white lady who was raised in the Midwest and to my eternal shame, I have never really liked the funk of kimchi. But this kimchi is very light on the funk, heavy on the sour, and just enough heat to fulfill that craving without making you feel like you're destroying your insides. Also comes with soy dipping sauce Bulgogi fries - the shining star of the meal for me! French fries topped with bulgogi, green onion, kimchi, and a couple sauces. It's not overly loaded down, so the fries stayed crispy. The sauces really reminded me of the bulgogi nachos from TaKo (RIP 😭) which I would get hella cravings for.
Recommendation for the menu - please make a nachos version of the bulgogi fries! Sub fried wonton chips instead of fries and put corn cheese on top! Would be a perfect sharable...
Read moreI grew up in a Korean household and had a mother who was an excellent Korean chef. This makes me very picky as to where I go when the word "Korean" is in the description or title of the venue. I have been walking my dogs past the location for over 4 years and was happy to see that a restaurant was moving in. Consider my surprise when I found out it was a Korean tapas bar!
The wife and I walked over this evening for light bites and cocktails. The vibe was cool (I dislike bars in general) there were cool neon displays on the ceiling. I liked that they had cast the TV to the brick wall, very cool. Having been here when it was the Pour House and another name which I forget... I was happy to see that this was the cleanest setup so far.
We ordered a few drinks, the Seoul Sour was superb... not too tart and just a hint of mint. Peaches and cream was just that, fruity and smooth.
For food we ordered the Bulgogi fries and the mandu. I remember as a young boy sitting on the floor of the kitchen making mandu with my mom. I was excited to see their interpretation of this dish. The mandu were potsticker shaped, we made them as triangles, but the flavor was spot on. As a real Korean, I ordered a side of rice and one of kimchee. My plan was to eat the bulgogi meat with my rice and leave the fries for my wife. The bulgogi was exploding with flavor but was matched well with the rice and kimchee. The food was tasty and were in generous portions.
All in all I am very happy to have Korean food so close to the house.. only complaint is that they open at 4 so no...
