woot woot! i am so glad there is one much closer to me, than in the bay! The reason why is because i always have a hard time where to go like which coffee shop, this or that because we don't have it in sac. BUT now I'm like ok we have this, so i can try elsewhere. . Ok back to philz, well my all time favorite, and if you never been, gotta get the mint mojito ice coffee, or if your vegan you can sub it with soy! . This amazing cup of crack is like addicting, keeps you wanting more. Its sweet, creamy, and just yummy! i like less sweet drinks so i always request less sweet. . The inside is nice, plenty of seating, nice music, also outlet plugs too. The patio is super nice and great for the evenings, or early morning! . If your hungry or need a snack, try the avocado toast, with egg, or tomato, or without anything. Also their pastry is from estelles! so ya get you baked goods on! . parking - lets see - there is plenty of parking nearby, there are non meter parking by the neighborhood, also meter parking too. . Tip - If you bring your own cup they take a dollar off your drinks. i love being classy, non basic, and bring my own mugs and i get a dollar off! you best bet I'm bringing my own unless i was on the go. . Overall review is gonna be updated soon as soon as i try the other drinks and coffee. By the way philz ice tea is amazing if you don't want coffee or coffee out for the day! it was refreshing and comes with mint as well. it comes non sweetened so you can request sweet tea if you like. i just love how they make one cup a time, fresh, friendly, fast, and fantastic tasting! Thanks for reading and sha shay away with...
Read morePros: the location. There really should be a good coffeehouse in this space.
Cons: this isn't it. The coffee is exceedingly burnt, even for people who love coffee and love even burnt coffee. Real coffee fans who do not want a dessert, but who actually want coffee, will be very disappointed by the acidity and burntness of this coffee. I would only consider this a Starbucks replacement in a pinch, I really do try to patronize local coffeehouses whenever possible, but I don't see myself coming back here. Additionally, the food offerings are very limited and very unhealthy, I really wish there was even something like granola available and there isn't. it's all pastries and the only gluten-free thing is a brownie. Just to give you an idea of kind of place this is, it really is more for taking your out of town guests than it is for daily life.
Additionally: the decor inside is cluttered and unwelcoming, I don't see myself ever possibly being able to work here or even have a decent conversation, given the layout. There is outdoor seating nearby which is nice and good, but not in inclement weather, obviously.
edited to add: as others have noted, the prices are out of line. I know we are all so eager to gentrify downtown and price out everyone, but the prices are out of line with the actual people...
Read moreSome of the staff are awesome. But there one in particular, HORRIBLE. One guy with gingerish color hair seems to always be super annoyed. He makes the drinks wrong EVERY-TIME.
His demeanor is always different towards certain individuals. I’ll see him acknowledge others but once a certain hue arrives he looks at them with a blank expression and waits for them. He doesnt really set a good environment. I work in corporate and I am very savvy to the micro/passive aggressive behaviors and I suggest this location have some sort of diversity training because having all these posters and flags claiming to be inclusive/diverse but having certain staff treat others differently doesn’t quite add up.
I’ve come to this location many times over the last two years but have noticed I have began to come less and less due to poor service or poor drinks. The only complaint I have towards the rest would be not everyone is consistent and their drink are most times watery or lacks flavor even if you ordered extra sweetness etc. food is good but that’s because they don’t make it so can’t really...
