Great Mexican Food! We visited on a Thursday evening at about 6:00 pm. This restaurant is located in a strip mall and faces S. Nogales Hwy near the Walmart. A little tricky to find the first time, but once you go you'll have no difficulty finding it on your next visits which you will do. As you enter the front door you see the counter where you order food, either for take-out or dine-in. Over the counter is a menu board with a huge selection. Note: the picture of this menu board on the internet is a little old and prices are a little higher. To the left is a soda dispenser and a help yourself salsa bar with Pico de Gallo, a green salsa - tasty, not spicy hot, a red salsa that I found to be a little spicier than I enjoy and a bowl of lime wedges. Small containers with lids are at the bar for your convenience. Dining tables are to the right. This is a very busy place at dinner time with some dine-in eaters and a heavy take-out business. We stepped to the side to study the menu board as regulars went right to the counter and ordered their meals. My wife ordered one chicken taco and two carne asada tacos. Just tacos, no beans or other sides. I ordered the Super Nachos and asked for the chips to be in a separate container instead of under all the toppings. Orders are filled very quickly, five minutes or less. The person at the counter calls out the order and you go to the counter and get it. All orders are served in foam take-out containers. Take-outs are in a plastic grocery sack, dine-in is on a tray. Plasticware and napkins are at the counter. These tacos are legit! The chicken taco had a plentiful amount of lightly seasoned juicy chicken with tomatoes, lettuce and cheese in a crispy fried corn tortilla. The carne asada tacos were in soft corn tortillas loaded with a super flavorful cubed beef, topped with Pico de Gallo and guacamole. These are large, full size tacos and we brought one home. Now for the Super Nachos. One typical large container was filled with fresh fried tortilla chips. The other large container was a Mexican buffet! Sour cream, Pico de Gallo, refried beans, guacamole, lettuce, cheese and a large portion of their tasty carne asada. I really enjoyed loading chips with a variety of the toppings and mixing up the flavors. I brought home enough for another days lunch. As we sat close to the counter, we heard numerous orders for carne asada fries which I think are the same toppings as the nachos, but over fries. I think I need to get these next time. Based on the volume of business they did on a Thursday night, I would say that indeed, this is THE Mexican food place in Green Valley. Don't go for the atmosphere, go and enjoy the food.
Update 3-20-23 The Carne Asada Fries ($12.90) have been on my mind since my last visit and I had to try them. My wife ordered two of her favorite Carne Asada Tacos. Once again, orders are ready for pickup at the counter within minutes. Piping hot with fresh toppings. These Carne Asada Fries are it! Loads, and I mean loads of carne asada, sour cream and guacamole atop a bed of fresh fried fries, topped with melted shredded cheese. I had enough left over for another lunch. Go...
Read moreAbsolute worst Mexican food I've ever ate. I've never not finished my burrito, anywhere, even taco bell. I'm Asian and I'm cheap, i don't waste food. But I had to throw away my two shredded beef burritos. The vegetables (onion and bell peppers) were... Disgusting. I Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's like my body was just rejecting them. It's like something in my body recognized that the vegetables they used either weren't good (as in expired) or the oil they were cooked in was wrong, because my body would not let me eat them.
So I took the vegetables out, but even the beef itself was just not appetizing.
Spanish rice was also kind of mushy.
Refried beans refried beans, hard to mess those up.
Otherwise I just threw the entire thing away. I've eaten here twice in both times were bad, the second time being the burrito incident and absolutely my last time ever eating there.
It was so bad that I did not have an appetite for the rest of the night. Which is bad because I'm bulking.
Anyway, don't recommend. Gas station burritos would be a...
Read moreSouthern California Mexican food in Green Valley, AZ. Hell yes! Rigoberto's is legit. I qualify this statement as I am native Southern Calfornian from San Diego. Our Friday night order included: Adobada Burrito, Rolled Tacos, Chicken Tostada, Shredded Beef Taco and a Bean with onion and cheese Burrito. We also raided their salsa bar and took home several small containers of their red and green sauce. The food is pretty damn good and the style met our taste profile. Better yet, the prices are at least 20% cheaper than Southern California Taco Shops. My review would not be complete if I did not address the customer service. The young lady at the front counter was very friendly and extremely helpful. The people cooking had the order completed and ready to take home in just a few minutes. My standards for Mexican food are exceptionally high. Rigoberto's easily satisfied those expectations. This small community is very fortunate to have this restaurant to meet their cravings for legit...
