The owner of this place is a very offensively impolite person. A group of friends and I traveled to St Augustine to view the sites and wanted to stop somewhere for a quick drink before heading back home, upon opening the door before a few of us could even get in he blocked the door way and demanded to see all of our ID's. He didn't even greet us. No hello welcome to my establishment, may I see you id's please? Not only did he makes us immediately feel uncomfortable he also ruined our evening by hovering over us literally watching every single move we made. I watching him watch my hand motions from my purse to the bar to grab my drink more than once. Very uncomfortable feeling to say the least. My fiancé and I stepped outside because I had to answer a phone call, and he didn't want me to go outside alone as there appeared to be many homeless people hanging out outside, and when we came back in not more than 4 minutes later he again blocked us from coming in the door and demanded to see our ID's again. My purse was still hanging from the chair within our group and he would not even allow me to grab it, he asked one of our friends to bring it to me. He was so rude that I will never recommend this place to anyone visiting St George Street. The thing that angered me the most 2 Men and 1 female walked in and the female had cut off shorts and her breasts were hanging out and yet he did not bother to check their ID's until they ordered a drink from the bar. If you're having an enjoyable night in St Augustine, don't stop by this establishment. It is ran by a very disgruntled miserable old man with nothing better to do than be rude to young adults for no reason. I have never experienced anything like this in...
Read moreTo start I just want to say I went to this bar just because its one of the oldest in Florida for a quick bit even if its a dive bar. The bar tender there is the most rude disrespectful and racist i have ever seen anywhere in a tourist area. She didn't even bring us menus and was annoyed my in laws didn't know english and we didn't know what to order since she never brought us menus. .Then she looks at another table where a customer said "we are ready" and left us hanging without even taking our drinking order. She later throws menus on bar counter and told us to grab them even though we were sitting at a booth. My mother in-law waved at her 15 minutes later to let her know we are ready to order and that witch comes over and tells her" you just waved me down, am going as quick as possible". Later she tells us if we order food we are going to wait a while because the grill is small and the cook can only work on 5 orders at a time. I had enough abuse so we paid for the drinks and as we are walking out i see the cook just talking with nothing on the grill. Horrible place I do not recommend and recommend less if you look like your a tourist from...
Read moreIf for no other reason, the food here is unbelievable! I take my lunch break here when ever I get the chance, sometimes every day for weeks in a row, and with two or more specials changed every single day my taste buds have, believe it or not, never gotten tired of Tavern lunches! Both of the chefs here, while dreaming up imaginative plates and innovative sandwiches or achieving equally interesting results with creative twists on contemporary classics, could easily be pictured right at home in much larger kitchens with multitudes more ingredients at their disposal and both also have been referred to many times and know to many locals as "this town's BEST kept secret". I love a ton about the St. George Tavern but the daily lunch specials choice, while splitting my heart right down the middle as if the decision was Sophie's choice, is my absolute favorite in all of St. Augustine or, for me...
