Stopped in to grab dinner and check out a new restaurant. I got the brisket, it was alright, and my friend got pasta with salmon. The salmon was really fishy and tasted off. When we let our waitress know, she responded, "Oh, that's weird. I had it earlier, and it was great. " she apologized and walked away. she brought the bill, and we asked if it was possible to remove the salmon from the check bc the fish was not good. And she said that's not something they do. The salmon was an add on, we weren't asking for her dish to be comped, just to remove the cost of the fish. My friend had taken two bites, and I tried a bite. 2/3rds of the fish was left, so we weren't asking for a refund on food we ate. Standard practice in any restaurantive worked at is to first tell customers she will let the kitchen and manager know, and then the manager addresses the issue. And if the food is unedable, remove the cost from the check. We got the check and tried to pay on the app, but it wasn't working. The manager came over and asked us. "So what's going on?" In a tone that felt aggressive. At that point, we handed her a card to pay and left. This was really disappointing and very unprofessional, especially for a new spot in town.
Im adding an edit. I dont know why you responded to me as Kiesha. But im also confused why you insist on doubling down on poor service. If a customer tells you the fish taste off you should do more to ensure that the customer does not have a piece of bad fish. The other customers and other cuts of fish are irrelevant. So many things can go wrong from dish to dish. As a business owner im shocked at your inability to apologize and take responsibility for the poor...
Read moreFun, quirky, creative Atmosphere. Saint George needs more like this. Unfortunately, the Bistro uses way too much space for their ‘Boutique’ and they don’t leave enough room for the Speak Easy eatery in back behind the bookcase door. Hidden bookcase door like we had at our Home in Riverton - cute. Tables are few and small, except for a couple 4-topper Tables that they guarded like their lives depended on it. We easily could have enjoyed the extra space and eaten before the Parties were even later sat. We visited for our 20th Wedding Anniversary and stated so on our Reservation, as they asked. But somehow they seem to have forgotten or just didn’t care. Food - tried to elevate Bar food but they could have done far more. Menu is sparse and items used and reused on multiple plate options to make it easier for them. We do not imbibe, we don’t mind a fun bar atmosphere, and they did have some ‘mocktails’ that they tried to elevate but overshot their mark. We seemed to have attended on ‘Girls Night Out’ as nearly every table was filled with Ladies Night Out. You go Girl! Though catering to all might help your cause in the long-term. Improve the Menu options, Add more room somehow, and remember that some pay for your overpriced bar food options in Celebration and a Free Dessert or Mocktail would go a long way. We still tipped 30% as that is the minimum we do - but I so wanted to Tip more! Good Luck to your long-term prospects, we want you to succeed! Girls Night Out could possibly sustain you - but the novelty will wear off - unless you make some much needed...
Read moreI recently visited Book Club Bistro and had an overall mixed experience. Even with a reservation, we waited about 20 minutes to be seated. The space is small and charming, so a reservation is a good idea, but they may need to rethink their pacing between seatings.
The staff was warm and welcoming, which helped set a positive tone. However, the bar experience was disappointing. Three people in our group ordered cocktails (lots of unique options) that seemed to lack any alcohol—perhaps a result of Utah's notoriously strict liquor laws. I usually stick with wine in situations like this, but the wine list was extremely limited and consisted of basic grocery store options, sold by the glass for more than you'd pay for the bottle.
I ordered a vodka martini that arrived with a strange yellow tint. I was told it was a dirty martini, but it was extremely salty and unlike any dirty martini I’ve had before. A replacement dry martini was brought out, but it tasted watered down.
The food presentation was beautiful, and the menu had some unique and appealing options. My dish—salmon on a salad—was delicious, but the portion size was surprisingly small for the price. The salmon was maybe three ounces, which felt underwhelming.
There’s a lot of potential here: thoughtful food, great ambiance, and friendly staff. But with some improvements to service timing, drink quality, and portion sizes, Book Club Bistro could really elevate...
