I don't know where everyone else who's reviewed this place is getting their tacos normally, but this place didn't impress me in the least. Because they are brand new I'm willing to give it another try, but let me tell you what to be prepared for.
First: of all, it's kind of confusing. Their menu doesn't have ANY pricing on it. AT ALL. So, you have to ask about each item they offer to know the price. Not the end of the world, but I just think that's a pretty important part of a menu.
Second: The prices are expensive for "street tacos." They are $2.69 ea. We were told that they serve them with "lots of meat" which is fine I guess. I'd prefer a more balanced taco. I don't need so much meat that I can't even close the taco. I tried the buche and the suadero. The suadero was pretty gristly and not very flavorful. And to be clear, I'm not a food wuss. I'm okay with tougher meats, but this was pretty bad. The buche was fine, but I don't need that much on one taco. I'd rather they charged the same price but split that amount of meat between 2 tortillas. Anyway, if you want giant amount of meat, maybe this is your thing?
Third: NO SALSA BAR. This is probably my biggest gripe, to be honest. When I get street tacos one of my favorite things is having a few options as far as salsas and toppings. These guys bring you a small cup of what ever salsa they feel like I guess. (In my case it was 2 green salsas (one for each taco) and neither was very impressive.) They also give you a little "boat" of chopped onion, limes and cilantro. But, I didn't like being limited in that way. They also don't have a very coherent way of dealing with your plates and garbage. We had to look around and then ask to find out that you just leave it on your table and they clear it for you. Not the norm in this style of restaurant. So, they are brand new, and I'm willing to give them another try down the road, maybe. But I think they need to iron out a few kinks. In a city that has A LOT of really good Mexican food I wouldn't bother with this place until they can find their legs. Literally every actual street taco cart I've ever been to is better and cheaper. And there are plenty of killer Mexican restaurants that do much better tacos, for less and have better options as far as salsas...

One-star review for Street Tacos SLC:
I recently had a meal at Street Tacos SLC, and unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the overall experience. The food lacked any sort of flavor and left me craving for something more satisfying. It seemed like the chefs forgot to add any seasonings or spices, resulting in an incredibly bland dining experience.
To add insult to injury, I was charged a different price than what was clearly displayed on the menu. Not only did this make me feel cheated, but it also showcased the restaurant's lack of transparency and reliability. Such discrepancies are simply unacceptable, and it left a sour taste in my mouth, both figuratively and literally.
Considering the lackluster quality and taste that I experienced, I strongly advise against anyone wasting their time or money at Street Tacos SLC. The exorbitant prices do not match the subpar quality of the dishes, making it an unworthy choice for anyone seeking a genuine Mexican culinary experience.
Save yourself the disappointment and look for other options in the area that offer far superior taste, quality, and fair pricing. Street Tacos SLC does not live up to the hype, and I regret having wasted my time and...
Read moreStreet Tacos SLC on 4th South in Salt Lake City is a really good spot if you’re in the mood for authentic, flavorful tacos. I’ve been a few times now, and the tacos are consistently great. The meat is well-seasoned, the tortillas are soft and fresh, and they don’t skimp on the toppings. I’ve tried a few different kinds, but the carnitas and al pastor were definitely my favorites. You can tell they put care into getting the flavor right, and the price is totally reasonable for what you get.
The vibe of the place is casual and fun, and if you come by on the weekends, it turns into more of a party scene with a DJ playing late at night. It’s a great place to stop if you’re downtown and looking for a solid late-night food option. The staff has always been super friendly and fast, even when it’s busy.
One thing I’d say, though, is that I don’t recommend the tamales. I gave them a try, and they just didn’t hit the mark for me—kind of dry and not much flavor. I’d definitely stick with the tacos, which are what they do best.
