We wanted to try the Sugar House Station, as were curious about the restaurants and how it was laid out. It reminded us of a food court, school cafeteria for adults. Not so great, but okay as far as the layout. The service and employees were great, very friendly and informative. The atmosphere and food..not so much. As I stated earlier, it was like a food court or school cafeteria. You can order from your table or at the restaurant location. There aren't any servers as far as taking orders at your table, etc., they bring your food or drinks to your table, you get your silverware, things to use for eating yourself, like I said, it's like a school cafeteria or food court. The selection of food was okay, not as much to choose from as I thought there would be. After looking through the menus, I finally choose a sandwich from Pizza Bar (felt like I was settling as not much of a selection of food), and was told their dough didn't rise and wouldn't be ready for an hour. Their pizza they had sitting out to buy, looked cold, old and doughy. So, on to the next food selection. I decided on a Gyro plate from Greek Tyrant. I didn't look at the price until I looked at my receipt later. What? $16.00 for a somewhat small chicken gyro with fries? I couldn't believe the price! Very, very overpriced cafeteria food. Any gyro I've gotten at other places in the past, were twice as big and cost less than half of this place. The Greek Tyrants meat, sauce, pita, onions and tomatos on their gyros were nothing special, definately not enough to charge what they charge. We also ordered a burger with fries and beers from Proper Burger & Brewing. We've wanted to try them in the past, but didn't like their other location for parking, etc. The burger was delicious at a good price and the beer was good, could have been a little colder, but I've been told it's best to drink good brewed beer a little warmer. So long story short, if you're into an adult themed food court, school cafeteria, that has few food choices with some of the food being very overpriced and underwhelming, Sugar House Station is the place. Next time we're in the area, we will skip this place and head across the street to the other restaurants...
Read moreSuch a fun concept with great food, drinks, and ambiance. As someone who grew up eating at Cannella's with my family around twice a month, I am SO excited to see it back at Sugar House Station. The lasagna Bolognese I had from them was really tasty, and my parents loved their Turkey Tetrazzini and Italian Salad. Such great staples that were sorely missed when the original location closed. The drinks were also really great, and the bar staff were all really cool (shout-out to Josh). The food did come out a bit slow and our table server was pretty slow to take our orders and check up on us for drinks, but I expect that the slow-ish service is just a kink that will be worked out as Sugar House Station gets more months under its belt. On my second visit for lunch, I was incredibly impressed by the chicken parm sandwich which was huge and delicious-- probably the best I've had. However, when on my third visit when I came in for their late night menu, I was pretty underwhelmed by the pizza (as other reviews have mentioned, it's like a poor imitation of a detroit style pizza which doesn't feel super fresh). However, even though id didn't love the pizza, the best thing about this place is that there are so many options. Overall, this food hall is a really fun concept and I'm looking forward to trying some more restaurants here next time I'm back...
Read moreSugarHouse Station is shaping into a fantastic food hall, blending a casual yet modern atmosphere with an exciting mix of eateries. While only three concepts are open so far—Birdhouse, the Italian place, and Proper—there’s already much to enjoy.
We opted for the tortellini with vodka sauce and the Italian salad, both satisfying choices. Our meal started with marinated cucumbers and a meatball with marinara, which set the tone nicely. To drink, I had a Bombay Sapphire martini, slightly dirty and perfectly balanced, while my other half went with a glass of red wine.
The space is open and inviting, with a smooth ordering process—simply order at the counter, take a number, and have your food brought to you. The bartender was fantastic—friendly, engaging, and making the experience even better. Since it wasn’t too busy, it was the perfect time to visit before the place hit full stride. I can imagine it getting lively once more vendors open, and I’m incredibly excited about the upcoming Greek and Wine Bar additions.
One thing to note—since it’s a bar-focused food hall, you’ll need to be 21+ with an ID. There’s also a coffee shop right at the entrance, which we’ll take advantage of next time.
Overall, SugarHouse Station has excellent potential, and I’m glad we got to experience it in its early days. Looking forward to...
