Granted, at the time we went, it's within a few days of its opening, so I can understand the stress that would come from that. When we first walked in, we were a little late to our reservation (by 5 minutes), and so walked up to the front reception desk in the middle of the entryway. We were ignored for a solid 2 minutes while the employees tried to figure out the iPad seating chart system. I'm all for leniency when trying to figure out new systems (I've grown up in the restaurant industry), but I at least expect an "I'll be with you in a moment, please excuse us, we're still learning the system." But there was nothing. Maybe its because all the staff are stressed and young (I am gen z myself, so I am familiar with the form of 'customer service' that we end up offering), but come on! Anyway once they acknowledged us service was decent, if a little shaky due to opening stress. We were seated within 5 minutes of checking in. Menu was fine, some good options. We ordered 2 hot chocolates ($5 ea) that took 10 minutes to reach our table (which tasted pretentious but not bad), the spicy chicken sandwich, and the chicken and waffles. I'll get to the actual food review in a moment, but I'd like to mention the atmosphere. It was so. Loud! There was a DJ upstairs playing club music, the kitchen was right across from us, and 85% of the tables had customers, so it was loud from three different sources, all mixing together. I wouldn't reccomend if you're looking for a calm brunch. Whole place was clean with nice furniture, which is what I expected. The actual food was mediocre, especially for the prices they were charging. The sandwich came with fries and was $17, and the waffles were $18. The Chicken sandwich was not spicy until I reached the mayo (which did not have a great spread, as the fiest 3 bites weren't spicy). If I'm getting a spicy chicken sandwich, I want the chicken to be spicy, not just the mayo. The fries were regular fries, no complaints. Onto the waffles, they had soy sauce on them and came with buffalo sauce. Why are you putting soy sauce in your chicken and waffles? For eighteen dollars. Overall, we have no desire to return, and hope that the restaurant figures out consistently good service (and identity, with that...

Read moreAs we planned our next culinary adventure, we decided to indulge in a brunch outing this time. After hearing all the buzz surrounding a new hotspot in town, our curiosity was piqued—we simply had to experience it for ourselves. Sovrenne booked us a reservation for 11:15 a.m., and we arrived ten minutes early. Thankfully, we didn’t wait long before being escorted to a cozy table tucked toward one end of the building. Sunday’s Best is located in the Post District, the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, neighboring other standout dining destinations such as Mensho and Urban Hill. The ambiance alone was captivating. The décor strikes a flawless balance—imagine the glitz of The Great Gatsby with sleek metallic details, paired with the playful charm of Palm Springs or Miami through bold palm-printed walls. Their attention to detail is impeccable. While waiting to be seated, I couldn’t help but feel like I had stepped into the lobby of a five-star hotel—chic, polished, and undeniably inviting. Our server promptly took our drink and snack order as we browsed through not one, but several menus. A mix of timeless favorites and inventive creations caught our attention. Although we originally had our eyes on the zucchini bread (which was already sold out), we opted for the beignets instead—a choice that proved delightful. Light, airy, and perfectly dusted with powdered sugar, they paired exquisitely with our coffee. For our mains, Sovrenne chose the hearty Truck Stop Breakfast, while I leaned toward a Southern classic: Biscuits and Gravy. I was eager to discover whether they truly lived up to their reputation as Sunday’s “best”—and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. From start to finish, the experience was a joy. True to their playful slogan, we certainly did “brunch me hard.” This new gem in town is an absolute must-try. If you’re searching for a fresh brunch spot, prepare to fall in...
