TL;DR Slow service, pricey food, and weird passive aggressive comments
I was visiting SLC for the first time and this popped up as recommendation. We were in the area so we decided to stop, the staff in the back seemed busy so it took a while to place our order. I ordered a medium seasonal iced latte and my friend ordered a sandwich and small iced latte. We ended up getting the same sized latte, but they were busy and I didn’t want to make a fuss about 4 extra ounces so I didn’t mention it. The coffee was below average, I was so dissatisfied with my latte that I went up the street to Java Jo’s afterwards to get a better (and cheaper) drink. My friend liked the sandwich and after taking a bite, I agreed it was good.
Despite the bad coffee, we decided to go back the next day and make it our last lunch in SLC. We made the mistake of bringing in plastic water bottles that we had just bought (the dry, desert air is not something we’re used to). It was less busy this time around but it still took a while to place our order again, my friend was helped first, then the employee that helped her left and I had to wait a little longer. A new employee helped me and as I placed my order, I asked for it to-go but they informed me that we couldn’t eat in there if we asked for it in a to-go box, which makes sense to be environmentally conscious but we knew we weren’t finishing our meals so we had to ask for boxes anyways before we left. While I was still placing my order the employee then comments that the “world is on fire”. I was mostly puzzled because they didn’t elaborate but after they had the nerve to repeat themselves, I realized they were making a passive aggressive comment about my water bottle, yikes! If there was an issue with me bringing a water bottle into the establishment then just say it straight up? The sandwich didn’t taste good at all after the interaction. Towards the end of the meal they gave my friend a free pastry after I got up to go to the bathroom but I couldn’t tell you if it was good or not because I didn’t want to try it after that interaction. My interaction seems minuscule but reading other reviews has confirmed I’m not making it...
Read moreI called in an order for a cake to Tulie a day ahead of when it needed to be picked up. I was told it wasn't a problem, so I placed the order and paid for the cake. When my father went to Tulie to pick it up, he was told they didn't have an order for me. There was a cake that was the same as what I ordered sitting in their cooler, but instead of giving him that one, they kicked him out of the bakery because "he wasn't buying anything and there wasn't an order for him to pick up" and they only allow two people in the bakery at a time. I called them immediately. The person I spoke to said he couldn't find an order for me and couldn't find a transaction either. The charge had already hit my bank account and I offered to send a screenshot of the charge. He declined, and when I asked why he couldn't give my father the cake in the cooler, he said it was because he couldn't prove I'd paid for it. I told him to cancel the order, to which he replied that he'd refund my money. So let me get this straight: he won't give my father the cake I ordered because he can't prove I paid for it, but he'll gladly refund my money? Unbelievable. Here's the best part: my father loves Tulie's shortbread and volunteered to pick up the cake so he could buy some more. Now he will never go back to that bakery, and neither will I. What terrible customer service, and the one cake I did have from there, a lemon cake, was so overbaked it was dry and dark around the edges. I'm so appalled at them kicking him out that I would leave zero stars if Google...
Read moreI'm a flight attendant, and I love going to different bakeries on my layovers. I went here on Friday Aug 22 around 1:00. The man taking orders at the counter was incredibly rude and unhelpful. I ordered the ricotta toast, which was good. Its important to note that my cell phone stopped getting service in this area (I have ATT), I couldnt access maps, messages wouldn't send or receive, and I was traveling for work so I was using uber and Lyft. My phone was trying so hard to work that it began over heating. I couldn't call an uber to get back to my hotel, so I asked if they had wifi. I was rudely told no they don't in order to keep people from being on laptops, I understand, but I explained it was a safety issue and I couldn't get cell service to get back to my hotel and it was over 3 miles, too far to walk. I ended up walking about a half mile until I got to an area where I had cell reception. Overall this was a very uncomfortable negative experience and I did not feel safe. I ended up having to walk about half a mile and have my boyfriend send me an uber from 1,000 miles away. All of this could have been avoided if the staff put any effort into customer service or had an ounce of compassion. When it's a matter of safety, I feel like the shop's WiFi should be made available. The food was fine, not worth all the trouble and there's definitely better options with owners and staff who are more deserving...
