Sometimes I am skeptical of places on main drags like this place right on 700 E., as sometimes places begin to compromise their quality for the quantity of traffic attracted by main streets. But this place did not fulfill that skepticism. I had gone to this place last year around the same time, and do not remember it being as good as it was. On my own budget, I could only order my one entree and try bites of my friends'.
I ordered the Drunken Noodle (Pad Kee Mao) over the Pad Siew based on the amount of veggies the Drunken Noodle came with. Sometimes it is disappointing ordering noodle dishes at places because they are dry and not saucy enough leaving them limp and not as powerful. But again, this place did not fulfill that skepticism. It was delightfully juicy in sauce, not overly but the thick pan fried flat rice noodles were perfectly doused in their spicy sweet black soy sauce. I like spice, a lot, and got a level three on a scale of 1-5, and that was more than enough to be able to enjoy my meal without constantly wiping my nose or heavy breathing. It was also perfectly smoky from the pan fry. And the array of veggies were delightful to have amongst the noodles.
My partner ordered the Panang Curry which was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy, warm and fresh. The coconut added a delicious sweetness to the spicy red curry without being too much. My friend ordered the Green Curry Fried Rice with tofu which was super unique and fun. The rice was cooked within the brothy curry, the way Mexican rice is cooked within the tomato broth, turning the rice a beautiful green. She had tofu and said they were really great, and the amount of veggies was fantastic. I liked this unique take on traditional fried rice. Another friend ordered the Pineapple Curry and adored it. The sweetness from the Pineapple paired with the spice of the red curry was a hit.
I will say, I felt like the prices were a bit steep. I paid $20 with tip for my meal, nothing else. No drink or appetizer. The service was great, attentive and prompt. So it was worth it because I felt the food was cooked slowly, without rush...
Read moreI heard some great things about the food at this place, but from the moment I walked in the customer service was among the worst I have ever had! We made a reservation and showed up and had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. Honestly it wasn't that big of a deal, we were willing to wait a little bit, but there is no waiting area inside the restaurant, so we had to stand, again it wasn't that big of a deal. However, the man at the desk kept getting mad at us for being in the way. We said we could go outside but the man said he will not come to find us if we are not in the restaurant. There is no place to go, so we didn't really have another option.
Once we were seated we waited for about 15 minutes before our waitress came to us, there was 11 of us there so we were enjoying our time just sitting and talking. When the waitress came back we started ordering, after I said I wanted the Yellow Chicken Curry with a spice level of 4 (Out of 5). She immediately said "if you don't like it, I will not give you new food." She just came across as extremely rude.
My curry came out and the taste and spice was good, some of the better curry I have had. When I had used all my rice I asked if I could get some more when she told me it would be an additional $2. One of my friends got the Drunken Noodles and they were honestly amazing.
I would not come back to Skewerd Thai. If I was solely reviewing it based on food, then I might come back. But since our service was so bad I wouldn't come back. I still think Sawadee is by far the best Thai food i have had, and excellent customer service. (And they don't charge you for...
Read moreThis was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in years. The hostess was extremely abrupt bordering rude. She took our order, repeated it back to us. We got our appetizers of spring rolls and they were disgusting. They were tasteless and chewy, like the rice paper wrappers had not been softened enough. My friend got her entree after a 40 minute wait in between the disgusting spring rolls. The waitress forgot my order! When I told her what I had ordered she acted like it was my fault! Then it took another 30 minutes to get my paang curry. The curry was THE WORST. It was too sweet, was thick like a very thick gravy. The only vegetables were onions and red bell peppers and the peppers were still completely raw. The chicken was barely there and dry. Seriously the worst curry I have ever eaten and I eat a lot of Thai food! We waited another 20 minutes for our check and finally had to go up to the cash register to get their attention to pay. Not once were we checked on. Seriously, this is the worst food and service I've experienced in years! In addition, this place is expensive. $17 for curry that is inedible? We would have had much better food, for 1/2 the price just about anywhere else. Avoid this place as the service is horrible and the food is worse.
I was there on Friday, November 11, 2022 at around 6PM. Your restaurant is THE rudest I have experienced in years and your food...
