I've been coming to Malstrom for over 12 years and have loved it every single time!! The staff and the Malstroms are amazing, warm, and have always done right by me and friends/family. The salon has a great atmosphere and vibe with friendly staff that seem to be very experienced and professional. The salon is always clean, neat and seems to be well-sanitized, which is a relief knowing I'm in good hands of professionals that take the safety of their employees and clients as #1 priority in this crazy COVID environment.
I can't help noticing 1 other comment about the mask and the principal of paying $2 for the mask :-) Interesting, so here we go... :) Obviously, we all (including that particular person) know the requirements that the health department & local authorities have placed on local businesses as part of re-opening, especially salons and personal services establishments. To show up without a mask - knowing one is required - is a bit selfish and inconsiderate to say the least... To "expect" small local businesses that have already taken a heavy toll financially to supply you with a free mask is beyond me - especially when you already know a mask is required to get a service. A well-informed person that pays any attention to the actuality of the situation would know that these masks didn't cost 50 cents (or less) at the time businesses were re-opening. PPE supplies didn't catch up until recently where prices are starting to stabilize. Although, it is not surprising that this person didn't know, because it seems that he may be part of the problem. I think it is totally okay to not believe in wearing a mask, but when you're in public sharing common space with others, it is not just about yourself anymore - it's called common courtesy. I can't speak for the salon, but I'm sure glad they lost you as a client... I know I am... since I just instantly felt safer and cleaner knowing the salon doesn't have an inconsiderate client like you around. Good luck at Great Clips. They'll charge you $5 for a mask (jk, I don't know...). I hope you bring your own mask next time when you do return to Malstrom Salon to get your bad...
Read moreI don’t normally write reviews but visiting this salon was honestly one of the worst times I’ve been to a salon, and I’ve had my eyebrows waxed off on accident before (at a different salon, but point being I’ve had some bad experiences)
I came in looking to get some bleach done on the underside of my hair and my hair dresser was a little uncertain if it would work because I had used red Overtone underneath it about 2 months ago that had faded to a light orange/pink…I told her no biggie if it didn’t, I had a dark purple color at home as long as my roots were bleached. She kept insisting she gloss it and color it and I finally gave in. It looks pretty good now, which is why I’m giving 2 stars, but it was not good before then. It’s pretty uneven if I lift up my hair, so I’ll probably just wear it down for now.
I don’t like how the price online when I booked was about half the price of what was actually charged ($140 vs $240), and it sounded like I wasn’t going to be charged for the “glossing” but ended up being charged even after I said I didn’t need either of them and could just cover the uneven color at home. I wish there had been more transparency with the price, as the cost ended up being near what I planned on spending on this hair cut/bleach AND my next two hair cuts (I’m a broke college student and booked on the online price thinking I could afford that, not near double). I did also mention price could be an issue if it got more expensive which is why I was refusing the extra services. I didn’t feel very welcomed by the person I was seeing and had for force a conversation after 2 hours in…she was super aggressive with my hair and kept apologizing but didn't try to be more gentle. My head is sore the next day. It was just overall an uncomfortable experience and I felt like the salon was lying to me about the quality of service for the price. They wanted me to come in to get it bleached again in a month, but I don’t think I can bring myself to come back to this salon.
Edit: also, the haircut itself was not the greatest, and I was for a blunt bob basically and it just wasn’t really close to that, or at least the bob cut...
Read moreUpdate 3/30- owner called this morning, and was extremely apologetic about the situation and heard me. But every time owner calls to clients and staff does not care about brand image, staff also should be accountable for the client experience. To implement this, Owner should introduce a feedback form that should be discreet and only owner can read service experience. In addition, salon should provide a voucher so that disgruntled clients atleast would come in to use the voucher and salon can utilize this opportunity to retain those clients and improve brand image.
Original review - 3/29 I have to give one star because there is no less available. Extremely unprofessional staff. I came in for hair color consultation, some weeks ago with Amber. But during my consultation I didn’t felt comfortable with some of her comments, but I ignored those and confirmed the appointment for hair color. As soon as I walked downstairs I had a question to ask and I went upstairs. She refused to answer my query even for a minute- right after appointment was booked. I was not convinced thereafter and then I cancelled my appointment. I found another stylist Merissa and contacted her via instagram. She confirmed consultation for 3/29 @5:30 for which I have saved chat as well so that they cannot refuse, I just wanted to confirm once again if she is in salon so I called at salon. I was surprised when desk person told me that she can’t take me because she took someone else and there is no appointment for me. Just to make sure I visit the appointment , I didnot go anywhere on my weekend and because of her I had to cancel many other things. Not just that, the staff is arrogant enough to not to apologize as if it’s only one salon in the whole city. I asked them to have my call forward to the owner which they refused because the staff thinks that they are owner and can decide whatever they want.on behalf of owner. Both times I felt the smell of racism. Now, to secure their time they have the card details so that if client doesnot show up they deduct money from card. In my situation, they refused my appointment at the last minute, will they pay me...
