TREMENDOUSLY TANTALIZING!!! If you want a really unique, special experience, trot yourself down to the totally charming Trolley Cottage Cafe. We specifically chose this cafe for the unusual speciality dishes that one can never find anymore elsewhere - and it did not disappoint! Possibly the best brunch we have EVER had…and WE are “foodies!” This is a family-run cafe with limited inside seating; however, there is some garden seating when warm outside and it is among beautiful red chestnut trees and carefully tended poppy flowers. Whatever your wait time may be (ours was 25 minutes) - it’s SO totally worth it! I had the PAIN PERDU - Baguette French Toast with Orange "Grand Marnier" butter sauce, berries, and mascarpone cream. The orange sauce was sublime! I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs. How they could make a simple scramble - so creamy & fluffy is completely beyond me. (They were so good that I polished them off first!) My husband ordered CROQUE MADAME - Ham and cheese melt with Béchamel sauce and Gruyère, topped with a fried egg. It was perfectly scrumptious…although I only got ONE bite (no wonder he was so territorial with his entree!) His meal included a side of Breakfast Potatoes that were a bit crunchy…buttery…perfectly seasoned, and golden roasted. One whiff of these and I quickly added on my own order of these, even though we were already near the end of our meals! I can’t say enough about the welcoming staff, the genuine personal attention, and the unparalleled ambiance. If we could have extended our trip and returned over & over for this delectable experience, we would...
Read moreIt is one thing to leave a negative review in a hope that it will make a difference and the business owners will improve the way they do business. Filtering and reviewing many other one star reviews and the owner responses murders that hope. Rude is the keyword. Unwelcome is the vibe. One important job description of a waitress is to help customers understand the menu. Our asian lady waitress failed to make even the slightest effort. Asking for a coffee refill received a vivid NEVER ASK ME A THING AGAIN vibe. For reasonable context, it was a weekday with zero wait time for our table and the food arrived quickly - this is to say they were not busy. One less reason to treat customers terribly. This is my first time ever in the history of dining in, leaving no tip. The male in the front desk: 1) did not ask us/give us the opportunity to explain why we did not tip 2) stated rudely that it is rude to not tip 3) said we are not welcome here anymore and 4) utterly discarded our attempts of explaining how bad the service was. TL;DR "Amazing food at the cost of amazingly degrading experience. Dine-in once, never go back again."
Btw: I tipped the last two times I had come in. The experience was not particularly memorable, but I hoped those were one-off days. Third time sadly was not the charm.
If your cafe is very small and run by 2 people, what justification does that offer to treat customers so poorly? Three groups of friends have visited your cafe independently on my recommendation. I brought in new friends yesterday while I came in as a returning customer. None of us are...
Read moreThe service was extremely rude and it appears to be family run so I wouldn't count on it being better on another day if the same people are always working there.
The woman who brought our food was kind, but the man who seated us was dismissive when we asked any questions. He mocked someone in my party for asking if the French toast could be served vegetarian (she wasn't sure if it came with sides like bacon for example).
While we were eating he yelled at a couple behind us who were sitting down because they changed something about the chairs maybe? I'm not even sure why.
Because of this service the person in our group "only" left an 11% tip which was generous given the behavior and that nobody ever checked up on us, ex: we had to ask for water, couldn't get our leftovers packed, etc. When she told him the tip so he could put in while she was paying at the counter he seemed very insulted and completely stopped acknowledging her after that. Didn't say anything when we turned and left.
It's not that we ever expect to have our behinds kissed or something as we leave, but it was clear he had a bad attitude in general and that this was a response to the tip.
Also, the place is really packed and it feels like they want you in and out to keep the seats rotating. Or maybe that's just how the unfriendly service...
