POV: You’re looking for a comfortable dive bar, where there are lot of regulars, an older crowd, a jukebox on deck, uniquely flavored moonshine, and it’s pet friendly all over!
The bartenders are very good about checking in on you without you having to ask. A majority of them have been working at Barfly’s for years. They have signs in the women’s restroom that show they take the safety of their patrons very seriously.
I used to live in the Alamo Heights area and this was the bar I would frequent to meet up with coworkers and friends. We stopped by randomly when I remembered that this bar is very pet friendly and we had our puppy with us. Everybody greeted us when we walked in the door with our little man! It was really sweet.
The bartender immediately took our order and we took our seats at the bar. You can tell it’s the type of bar where everybody there is a regular and they all know each other.
They do have frozen pizzas, should you get hungry and want to order one. I want to say Barfly’s is a bar that can be described as, “It is what it is,” but to an introvert that might be reading this, looking for a bar to lay low without being overwhelmed, this is a pretty chill bar for that and the restrooms are clean. Also, the drink prices are amazing!

Read moreI'm relatively new to the bar scene, so take my advice with a grain of salt if you will, but business takes me there more often these days, and people are my thing. I've heard it called a 'regulars bar', and I agree; whether your just looking for a drink, or searching for a new place to call your second home, you'll find welcome here as long as you don't prove yourself to be 'that jerk'. I've seen other reviewers portray Laurie as a bit tip-hungry, but from what I've seen, she does it the right way; she tries to serve every customer or group with the same focus and care regardless if it's a slow and you ARE her only customer, or the bar is crammed elbow-to-elbow like sardines.
If you're looking for a great break into the weekend, Charlie runs a great show on Fridays and Saturday nights. The music is decent to good, and the performances are as grab-bag as you might expect(it's karaoke) but Charlie always keeps it fun and engaging.
Overall, it's a decent place. I didn't used to be a regular, and now I am. At least come by and see if it's a place where you want to be a...
Read moreThis is one of the best bars on the northeast side of San Antonio. They always have the most relevant sports on the TVs, trivia is pretty good too. The bartenders are quick to help you and quick to reserve. Decent prices, this is the type of place you want to hang out at.
Update, just went back after being out of town for a few months. And the place has not changed. Everyone is still friendly, the bartenders don't play favorites and serve everybody quickly. It is the perfect place to sit back relax or have decent party at. I know a lot of bars rotate their staff semi-frequently but the owner knows what he's doing because he chose the right bartenders, this is a great place to hang out. Still...
