Okay, this is truly based upon complete opinion. So while I did not love this restaurant, it does not mean someone who is Native to Mexico would not absolutely get a taste from home! This restaurant is not a typical Tex-Mex restaurant. Which is what I personally prefer. This restaurant uses authentic Mexican recipes from Mexico as the features on their menu. So the tastes, textures, and ingredients would be those specialized to someone truly from that country. For me, and my family, it was very hard to read the menu alone. We were not familiar with many of the items on this traditional menu. So if you went and had a good understanding of true Mexican cuisine and their authentic flavors, this may definitely be a place to visit. My daughter and I shared a set of six small tacos. The menu said that these would be a taste of street tacos. The tacos we got had black bean, potato, and then pork belly with tomatillo salsa. They started us off with a small cup of a shrimp bisque. Very much a strong shrimpy seafood type taste. I do like shrimp, but this was not a preference for me. My husband and son chose to split their enchiladas. These too were native authentic foods. I think I would have preferred the dish they chose. Cuisine serves Rojas enchiladas, verde and poblano enchiladas. Had we known more about the culture we might have been able to better order. This particular restaurant even served what they call the caviar of Mexico. At $60 per serving. Which I read on that menu to be Ant larvae. I had no idea that this was a food of other countries. They also had different cooked grasshoppers etc. Like I said, a person native to Mexico may find these dishes absolutely delicious. So if that is the case, please boost my star rating to five stars and give it a try. Or if you are someone that likes to genuinely try cuisines from other countries, definitely go! The atmosphere and ambience is gorgeous. You will love all of the beauty of the restaurant. For me, personally, I like a traditional Texas taco, Texas burritos, fajitas and lots of cheese and don't forget the chips and salsa! Expect to pay between $13 all the way up to $50 per person. So I would definitely rate this place as a $$$ menu, at least. I hope that this review truly helps. I hope that if you are looking for a taste of home, that this restaurant will bring you just what you're looking for. But if you are a Tex-Mex lover you might want to do something a bit different. As I said, completely my opinion. We enjoyed...
Read moreI wanted to like this place so much, but it was a huge disappointment for me. My husband and I have never tried Tex mex before and this is my first time coming to Texas so I really was looking forward to eating authentic Tex mex food. Unfortunately this is NOT the place to go. The service was horrible, it literally took me forever to get one drink and there were barely any customers in the building so it shouldn’t have taken that long. I was right near where the bartender was and he was just standing there not really doing much so I was confused why it was taking so long. On top of that staff members were literally in a corner just gossiping and not being attentive whatsoever. They honestly looked like they didn’t want to be there and would rather just talk to their friend coworkers than actually do their job. By the time I FINALLY got my food the lengua tacos were lukewarm (not even hot), as if they put it in the microwave for 30 seconds and called it a day. The lengua tasted pre made and weird (and I’ve had a LOT of lengua in the past never has it tasted so old and bad). The esquite was disgusting as well, the corn was raw and seemed half cooked. I spent a total of over $100 and my husband didn’t even order an appetizer, just an entree and one drink. I had one drink, one app, and one entree. I honestly believe the reviews are fake for this restaurant because I always go by the rule of thumb and look for places that have a 4.6 and up and I have never had a problem. This place is just not it. AVOID...
Read moreCame here a few weeks ago expecting it to be a nicer Mexican restaurant and I was really disappointed and won’t be going again. They don’t offer complimentary chips and salsa which isn’t so abnormal but c’mon it’s San Antonio, every Mexican restaurant I’ve stepped foot in except for this one’s offers chips and salsa. I came with a group of friends during happy hour and we wanted the Cantina drink to share but instead of the squirt soda we just wanted soda water, they said that if we were to get it like that we would have to pay the regular price not happy hour price. In my opinion that’s really dumb and using club soda should not effect the price at all. Even the server was saying she didn’t understand why that was the rule. The regular Cantina drink was really good though but it was super weak. It could have had half the amount of liquid and twice as much liquor. For dinner, I got flautas for $14 and the chicken was dry, there was only 3 flautas, lettuce sprinkled on top and salsa. For $14 they should have at least given me rice and beans. My friends plates were also pricey but didn’t seem worth the price. The food was pretty generic. If you’re looking for a nice Mexican restaurant to go to, try La Fonda on Main, the food is high quality and worth the price. If you want to go here specifically for their Cantina drink, I would definitely go during happy hour and be prepared to drink more liquid than...
