Okay, this is truly based upon complete opinion. So while I did not love this restaurant, it does not mean someone who is Native to Mexico would not absolutely get a taste from home! This restaurant is not a typical Tex-Mex restaurant. Which is what I personally prefer. This restaurant uses authentic Mexican recipes from Mexico as the features on their menu. So the tastes, textures, and ingredients would be those specialized to someone truly from that country. For me, and my family, it was very hard to read the menu alone. We were not familiar with many of the items on this traditional menu. So if you went and had a good understanding of true Mexican cuisine and their authentic flavors, this may definitely be a place to visit. My daughter and I shared a set of six small tacos. The menu said that these would be a taste of street tacos. The tacos we got had black bean, potato, and then pork belly with tomatillo salsa. They started us off with a small cup of a shrimp bisque. Very much a strong shrimpy seafood type taste. I do like shrimp, but this was not a preference for me. My husband and son chose to split their enchiladas. These too were native authentic foods. I think I would have preferred the dish they chose. Cuisine serves Rojas enchiladas, verde and poblano enchiladas. Had we known more about the culture we might have been able to better order. This particular restaurant even served what they call the caviar of Mexico. At $60 per serving. Which I read on that menu to be Ant larvae. I had no idea that this was a food of other countries. They also had different cooked grasshoppers etc. Like I said, a person native to Mexico may find these dishes absolutely delicious. So if that is the case, please boost my star rating to five stars and give it a try. Or if you are someone that likes to genuinely try cuisines from other countries, definitely go! The atmosphere and ambience is gorgeous. You will love all of the beauty of the restaurant. For me, personally, I like a traditional Texas taco, Texas burritos, fajitas and lots of cheese and don't forget the chips and salsa! Expect to pay between $13 all the way up to $50 per person. So I would definitely rate this place as a $$$ menu, at least. I hope that this review truly helps. I hope that if you are looking for a taste of home, that this restaurant will bring you just what you're looking for. But if you are a Tex-Mex lover you might want to do something a bit different. As I said, completely my opinion. We enjoyed...

I wanted to like this place so much, but it was a huge disappointment for me. My husband and I have never tried Tex mex before and this is my first time coming to Texas so I really was looking forward to eating authentic Tex mex food. Unfortunately this is NOT the place to go. The service was horrible, it literally took me forever to get one drink and there were barely any customers in the building so it shouldn’t have taken that long. I was right near where the bartender was and he was just standing there not really doing much so I was confused why it was taking so long. On top of that staff members were literally in a corner just gossiping and not being attentive whatsoever. They honestly looked like they didn’t want to be there and would rather just talk to their friend coworkers than actually do their job. By the time I FINALLY got my food the lengua tacos were lukewarm (not even hot), as if they put it in the microwave for 30 seconds and called it a day. The lengua tasted pre made and weird (and I’ve had a LOT of lengua in the past never has it tasted so old and bad). The esquite was disgusting as well, the corn was raw and seemed half cooked. I spent a total of over $100 and my husband didn’t even order an appetizer, just an entree and one drink. I had one drink, one app, and one entree. I honestly believe the reviews are fake for this restaurant because I always go by the rule of thumb and look for places that have a 4.6 and up and I have never had a problem. This place is just not it. AVOID...

Came here a few weeks ago expecting it to be a nicer Mexican restaurant and I was really disappointed and won’t be going again. They don’t offer complimentary chips and salsa which isn’t so abnormal but c’mon it’s San Antonio, every Mexican restaurant I’ve stepped foot in except for this one’s offers chips and salsa. I came with a group of friends during happy hour and we wanted the Cantina drink to share but instead of the squirt soda we just wanted soda water, they said that if we were to get it like that we would have to pay the regular price not happy hour price. In my opinion that’s really dumb and using club soda should not effect the price at all. Even the server was saying she didn’t understand why that was the rule. The regular Cantina drink was really good though but it was super weak. It could have had half the amount of liquid and twice as much liquor. For dinner, I got flautas for $14 and the chicken was dry, there was only 3 flautas, lettuce sprinkled on top and salsa. For $14 they should have at least given me rice and beans. My friends plates were also pricey but didn’t seem worth the price. The food was pretty generic. If you’re looking for a nice Mexican restaurant to go to, try La Fonda on Main, the food is high quality and worth the price. If you want to go here specifically for their Cantina drink, I would definitely go during happy hour and be prepared to drink more liquid than...

My friends and I were disappointed with this restaurant, despite our initial excitement to try it for my friend's birthday dinner. We had reservations on a Saturday night, but it was concerning to see that we were only one of two tables in the entire restaurant. The waitress only visited our table three times - to take our orders for the appetizer, entree, and to pay - without offering any refills on water or drinks throughout our dining experience. Overall, we found this restaurant to be overrated on many levels. The Chicharrón de Arrachera dish was large enough for sharing, but the meat lacked seasoning and appeared to be reheated, resulting in a rubbery texture. However, the poblano rice was well-balanced and flavorful. The Sabana de Invierno dish was overly saturated in salsa, and the "Heartbrand beef sirloin" tasted like an overcooked meatloaf. The pricing was misleading as we were charged for guacamole that was never served, and we were also billed for extra tostadas that we did not order. It is crucial for all eating establishments to prioritize honesty with their customers. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this restaurant despite my initial desire to enjoy it. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

UPDATE: Came back July 29th and tried the Enchiladas de Mole along with the Sábana de Invierno. These dishes were a total 180 from the previous meals we tasted - full of flavor, delicious and very filling. Margaritas were the bomb as well. Laura was an excellent waitress and was very attentive to us throughout the evening. I was extremely excited to try a bunch of items from Cuishe, as a native of CDMX, and get some traditional Central Mexico fare with my partner. We got the chicharrón de queso, sopes al pastor, and tacos de bistek. Major props on the salsas - super tasty with great flavor. Unfortunately, the meat in both the sopes and the tacos was heavily underseasoned - even just a little salt would have done a lot to help. If we hadn't added salsa to both dishes, it would have been a flavorless mouthful - which is disappointing because the dishes presented so well. My D.F. cocktail was outstanding, as was the glass of wine my partner got, but our second round of drinks were a bit subpar; Aguascalientes and Celaya. The atmosphere was very pleasant, if a bit loud from the music pumping in from the bar, the prices reasonable for the area.

Gladly surprised with what we found there. The place seems to resemble a Mexican country house, and the atmosphere is relaxed and invites to stay for a while. We thought it was going to be pricey, but it’s absolutely not. Now, beers were 5 bucks, and food ranges from 12– 60 dollars (plates with red meat are more expensive), and although isn’t your typical plate full of rice, beans, salad, crema and tortillas, is worth it. I had the chicken enchiladas - suiza sauce- and my husband had the queso fundido with chorizo. My enchiladas where exquisite, there were 3 of them and no sides. I didn’t need them, though. The queso fundido was delicious, but is definitely not suitable for people with heart, cholesterol, diabetes, or other health issues… the cheese is delicious, but floats on fat. He couldn’t have it all. We saw a huge selection of tequilas, mezcales and other spirits, and had the opportunity to see the bar team working. My husband is an experienced restaurant manager and he said he never saw such solid team. It’s just impressive. Seat yourself at the bar and you’ll see. I would come back if I have to travel to San Antonio again.
