I booked this hotel because it is a less than ten minute walk to the Henry B. Gonzales Conference Center where I was attending a conference and because it is very cheap. It's convenient and cheap, but I don't really recommend this place.
When my friend and I first arrived, the people at the front desk were incredibly kind. However, when I got to my room, it smelled moldy and there were small roach-like bugs crawling around and one of the beds didn't have any sheets or bedding on it. I called the front desk about the bedding, and they said they would transfer me to a new room since house keeping had already gone home for the day. When we got to the new room, this one still smelled moldy and the second we turned the bathroom light on, we discovered at least three little bugs crawling around the floor, two small roach-like bugs wandering around inside the toilet bowl and tub, and a silverfish inside the tub. Later, we discovered that the bathtub drain did not work well. When we left the next morning, we asked the front desk to ask housekeeping to fix the drain and use bug spray in the room. However, when we got back to the room, the drain still didn't work and there was a fresh batch of bugs crawling around. We called the front desk, and they transferred us to ANOTHER room (our third one, for those of you keeping track), Thankfully, this room did not smell moldy or have bugs (that we saw).
The people at the front desk were all very helpful and kind, and our third room was perfectly fine. The first two rooms were just absolutely gross though. So I have really mixed feelings about this hotel because the quality of the rooms seems to be all over the place (we met a man staying at the same hotel, and his room apparently didn't smell like mold or have bugs). So if you're willing to play musical chairs until you find a decent room, this place is totally fine. It's super conveniently located if you want to go to Riverwalk or the convention center, so that is a huge plus. Also, the front desk staff are incredibly nice. I just really hate bugs so I wouldn't go back...
Read moreI'll start by saying I was here 6 months ago and thought this was a very nice hotel. After this stay I won't return. We noticed almost everything in our room was quite worn, paint off the wall, worn out lamp shades, fire detector hanging from the wall, the safe doesnt work, wall cracked in the bathroom, the shower curtain is torn and worn out with no liner and the rod was pulling out of the wall causing the curtain to not stay closed during use although they did remount the rod while we were gone during the day because my wife complained, every cabnet drawer looks ruined inside from water swelling (doesnt look clean enough to unpack my clothes into) and every single vending machine on every floor including the lobby is out of water. Thanks to the employee who gave us some water in the lobby at 2am, he had to get the water bottles from the stock room that were to be for premier customers, like why doesnt this hotel even have a system to sell bottles of water over the counter? (please dont take that as a complaint on the worker, he was kind enough to heed my water request when the hotel's systems failed to do so via vending machine and unability to sell water on my card) Even the lobby machine has dasani visible but it just reads sold out and to top it off the tv wants money to watch it. Honestly I know these are all little inconviences but all combined, this place seems a little unmaintaned and thats a big number of problems. Also the walls are dirty around and on every light switch. Also I'm sure part of my card charge is deposit, but seems pricedsteep in this condition concidering I payed over $400 for 2 nights upon arival and they charge per day to park. all around, I am seriously dissapointed. room 605 if the company wants to know which one to fix up. hopefully this doesnt reflect the condition of...
Read moreI must start with booking the room, there are no words to explain how unprofessional the reservation representatives were. The first 2 representatives hung up in my face and the 3rd representative did get the reservation done however, once we arrived at the hotel, several of the questions I ask were not true. First, I was concerned about the fees and asked specifically what they were and no one could explain why the taxes were 20%. I asked if there were any other fees and was told no. Upon arrival to my surprise, there is a $15 parking fee. It’s not about the cost, but the fact that I ask about all taxes and fees, they never said it was mandatory to pay a parking fee. Personally with 20% taxes, you would think parking should be included. My mother arrived at the hotel first but I called to let them know she would get there 1st, but that wasn’t an easy request either. I called to Speak with management about the miscommunication and basically he told me if I had a problem with their policies he would release my reservation at no cost and I could go find a room elsewhere. Again… what happened to customer service??
It was spring break weekend, cheerleader competition, and high school state basketball finals, so basically, he knew we were not going to have many options for hotels.
The attitude of every single person I spoke with was unacceptable. The room was dirty. We had to request for the sheets to be changed. The check out was unprofessional. I promise I will never stay at any red roof, regardless of the location nor recommend recommendation. We were forced to stay because we had nowhere else to go that wouldn’t cost us 3-4 times more...
