I visited Red Ribon Bakeshop today and was not impressed. The store itself was clean and well set up. I ordered the following items: pork empanadas, beef empanadas, halo halo, chocolate brownie, mango cake slice, chocolate mousse cake slice, palabok, and a few mamons. The empanadas dough was sweet and the pork and beef filling was sweet as well 3/10. The Halo Halo had large clumps, chunks of ice as if it was pre made and put in the freezer 5/10. The chocolate mousse cake was grainy 5/10. The mango cake was really good, soft and light 9/10, the palabok was tasty and with great “porky” flavor 8/10. Customer service was horrendous 0/10! The young lady that helped me, yelled at me when I didn't pronounce the palabok correctly! Then when I asked if they had slices of Rocky Road cake or black forest, she said “we only have what’s there, we're not going to slice a whole cake for you!” I never asked her to, I only asked if they had other options for sliced cake because I wanted to try all the flavors. I love Filipino food and I like to support Filipino businesses both large and small, and while I really enjoyed the mango cake and palabok, I spent far too much money to be treated like a child. Red Ribbon, please teach your employees about customer service and kindness. I did not intentionally mispronounce the dish, and I would never scold anyone whether English was their first or second language, there are tactful ways of teaching that do not include belittling. I would not recommend this place to anyone I care about, there are plenty of other places to buy delicious cakes that treat their customers well and appreciate...
Read moreI’ve been here a couple of times. Service is okay but I wouldn’t say the best (3 stars), the shop is clean and has a good display of baked goods as you enter but let’s talk about the goodies.
Growing up, red ribbon (& Goldilocks) has always been the go-to places for occasions are just snacks. The baked goods in this location is definitely a disappointment to what I had growing up. It also can’t compete with other Filipino bakers here in SA. The halo-halo was okay, Sari-Sari makes it better. The palabok and ensaymade are meh (there are better vendors you’ll find on marketplace) but my main gripe was about the Ube overload my husband got me for my bday— what was that I asked? It was pretty embarrassing to have my friends eat the dryest, most unflavorful, bland/boring cake I’ve ever had in my entire life. I should’ve just went to heb for a cheaper, bigger, moist, better decorated and more flavorful cake.
If you grew up eating the real Ribbon, you know this...
Read moreWe liked Red Ribbon!! It was a fun cultural experience. I don’t regret going and would try it again. We tried their Mango & Ube Overload Cake as well as their Ube Milk and their Pork & Egg Pasta!! Their Ube Milk needed a little more sweet to it because it pretty much tasted like milk. The pasta was interesting. I liked it, but I felt a little weird about eating it, and I’m not sure why. I think it’s because the paste looks like egg yolk. I never did find out if it was, lol. The desserts were just alright. Their desserts are not the best tasting, but they’re good, and the experience of trying it was pretty cool. We got some good pics and good memories out of our visit, and that’s more important. We love trying unique places, and Red Ribbon is a unique place whether we thought the taste was worthy of a five or not. I definitely recommend you try it. We are picky, but you may...
