First I want to start from the beginning, we got there on Saturday night around 5:40. We were prepared for a wait but were informed that it would 25-30 minutes for a seat indoors. We gave our name and number to the hostess to text/call us when the table would be ready. With the wait not being too long we decided to wait at the bar to have a drink. After drinking our Sangria Swirl which I drank and the Texas Tea my husband ordered while making conversation with a nice family, we decided to head outside and wait.
At about the 35 minute mark we headed inside and asked the hostess how much longer, she said it would be another 8 min until the 45 minute mark. We thought great it won't be too much longer. So we decided to sit inside in the waiting area (away from the hostess) and waited a bit longer. While we were still waiting to be called we noticed it was already 7pm an hour and twenty minutes after arriving. I then proceeded to go back to the hostess station to inquire about our table. The hostess asked for my name and number and searched the system. Apparently they could not find our information as it had been removed. The hostess then proceeded to seat us at the next available table in about 10 min.
As we got seated and out waiter approached we ordered a couple of Frose Rita's and some cheese fries appetizers that came with potato wedges, sour cream, chives, and cheese. We both thoroughly enjoyed the drinks and the appetizer. Dinner on the other hand was a hit and a miss. My husband ordered medium rare T-bone steak with a loaded baked potato, and both were cooked to his perfection. My order on the other hand was a Chicken Friend Chicken with mashed potatoes. The fried part of the steak kept falling apart in chunks and the chicken had no flavor to it. The mashed potatoes had way too much garlic salt to the point of it being inedible. Needless to say I did not finish my meal.
We finished our Frose Rita's and on my husbands suggestion we ordered a pair of Texas Tea's. These were good and strong drinks to finish the night with and wash the food down. By the time we left it was coming up on 8:30. If I am being completely honest I will never go back to eat again, however, I wouldn't mind visiting the bar again for those awesome Texas Tea's and...
Read moreWe love coming to San Antonio and visiting the River Walk but we’ve never eaten there. We were in the mood for some steaks and decided to eat at Saltgrass. We were greeted by the hostess and sat immediately. The restaurant was not busy which we love. Our server, Adriel, came to our table and introduced himself, we told him we haven’t been to Saltgrass in a while but I had a hard time understanding what he was saying because he seemed to talk very fast and in a very unfriendly manner. My husband and I decided to brush it off as we thought that maybe he was already tired or had a long day. Anyways he asked what we would like to drink and I specifically asked for a strawberry margarita for my husband and I. He went and got us waters and soda for my daughter and later on a different waiter came with the wrong margaritas. We told her nicely that we had asked for strawberry margaritas. She mentioned it to him as he was following her with the other margarita but he was dismissive and didn’t seem to care. WE TRIED TO BRUSH IT OFF AGAIN. We were ready to order and when I asked him if we were able to sub extras fries instead of a soup and salad for my daughter he said in a very quick and serious manner that they do not allow substitutions, okay at this point I was starting to get a weird vibe from this man, so I asked my daughter what she would like and she said a soup, he mentioned something and I didn’t understand and I said “soup” one more time, he told me very rudely “potato or tortilla soup” at this point I’ve have had enough of his rudeness and asked him why was he being so rude! I felt so embarrassed because I was there with my family and trying to enjoy a nice outing at the river walk. It made my whole family feel uneasy. I understand that people can have long shifts and be tired as I too was a server. I had asked if we could please get another server and he said yes but my husband had also had enough of him and decided that it was better to get up and leave and take our money elsewhere. I have never been treated this way as we are not complicated people. It sucked that our outing was ruined because of this server’s lack of hospitality. I would never bring back my family to this...
Read moreFor people who have been to many different types of steakhouses, you can see that most of them are the same. So, for me, the most important thing I look at in a steak house is the service and the atmosphere.
I went with my mother, my brother, and sister in law for dinner. We ordered a steak, a chicken bowl, a burger, and a chicken type dish. The sirlion steak was properly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The chicken plate that my mother received seemed to be lacking a little bit of seasoning for my taste. The burger, although it was very good, felt It could use a little bit more flavor to my liking. The menu, however, is generous with the options, so there is something for everyone.
Our drinks came out cold and fast with just the right amount of ice, and the plain water was acceptable as I was expecting the aftertaste, which some restaurants tend to have. I wish I could have remembered the person's name that waited our table. He was very attentive, patient, and detail oriented.
Although there are Saltgrass steakhouses all across San Antonio, we went to the one that was on the river walk. Just being located on the riverwalk is more than enough reason to come here. For those that have had the privilege of coming to the Riverwalk, we know what a treat it is to just kick back and admire the view. It was perfect timing as we went late October. This allowed us to eat on the patio, to which we were all delighted.
There are many restaurants in the riverwalk. However, if you happen to be in the mood for some good steaks , I would definitely come here. I do need to disclose the price so you can be well informed as well. This place is usually on the pricier side compared to other restaurants of the same caliber. Although some of the items were of excellent quality, the portions were smaller compared to others with similar menu items. Don't get me wrong, Saltgrass stands out from the crowd in its wonderful staff and beautiful locations. Would I recommend going here? Of course. Go for the steak and order the entree to get...
