Poor service. Cameron was a decent waitress at first but then left after delivery of meal. Drinks were empty and new waitstaff didn't take over after entrees were served.
I ordered a ribeye steak and for the price point I was expecting a decent steak with some good seasoning. Steak is normally served with sauce on top but politely asked for it to be served on the side which they accommodated. Sauce was not to my liking but I won't fault them on that as I'm not a huge sauce person. Steak was cooked a nice medium per order but the steak lacked any real flavor and required a lot of salt to have a decent taste to it. Was also on the dry side indicating a previously frozen steak and not a fresh steak. Not a deal breaker but for $43 I expect a fresh steak and not one previously frozen. If it is going to be a frozen steak then give me something larger than 10 Oz to make up for the lack of freshness.
Sides on the steak dish were delicious as it was served with potatoes sautéed with a very nice touch of seasoning. Not too much and not too little. Just right as little Goldie locks would say. Only down side to them was I was left wanting more of their deliciousness.
Wife and son both ordered burgers with fries. Fries were on point and again well seasoned. Burger was a bit on the bland side though but was cooked properly to a nice medium~medium well as a burger should be.
Wife also ordered an apple martini and was good. Would have ordered another one if it wasn't for staff.
Our dinner guests ordered al pastor tacos and an enchilada plate. Enchiladas were good and well seasoned. A bit on the mild side for spice but were good. The tacos came out spilling meat over the tortillas. While this is nice for money's worth of food it is not appealing to the eye as it is somewhat messy to eat. Good flavor but again a bit on the mild side but good if you prefer mild foods over some kick to your Mexican food.
Restaurant was not busy and had around 10 tables seated with around 2~5 guests at each table. Lot of empty tables but was a bit earlier in the evening (5:30pm) Waitstaff should have been better about taking care of us with original waitress leaving early. Manager on duty was making phone calls in dining area regarding business and not professional at all.
Overall a poor dining experience for a well located establishment and well decorated. Expected great service and great food and left with sub-par service and food. If you're going to charge $160 for five people to eat with only two non-alcholic drinks, one martini and two waters I expect to receive great food and great service.
Will not eat here again or...
Read moreWe went to the River’s Edge Cafe based on great reviews. We were somewhat disappointed because of service. We were seated on the outdoor patio which was lovely. The next four tables of customers seated after us, were served food before us. They did bring food to us at one time but it was not our food. My eggs were runny when ordered over medium. My side potatoes came out five to ten minutes after my eggs with small sausage links and dry toast. No butter or jelly on the table. The ketchup bottle we asked for was almost empty. Lots of shaking the bottle. Lol. Tiny mimosa and tiny bloody mary. No coffee offered. The waiter never came back to see how things were or if we wanted another beverage after the potatoes finally came. My husband did enjoy his Mexican Hash and shared a bite or two with me and I agreed, a better choice and very tasty. The standard EGGS of your choice selection was something I told my husband they can’t screw up but they did. The people watching from our table was great, but only because we asked to sit at the tables that were empty near the sidewalk, and waited patiently for the table to be bused. Don’t be afraid to ask for a table to be cleared while you wait if available on the walkway. It was what made the dining experience more enjoyable. I would try another place for breakfast and hope for better service. The prices for the meals were very reasonable however the drinks were too small for the beverage prices. I liked my mimosa but could have it larger. My husbands bloody mary was spicy how he liked it but too small. This review may sound like I am a complainer, but I was expecting a really good meal and great service because this place came as one of the best River...
Read moreYou don’t have to search for very long to find a place for food and drink on San Antonio’s famed Riverwalk. Food and drink are just steps away and if you’re looking for a satisfying American meal or a cocktail, wine, or beer, then a good option is The River’s Edge Café and Patio Bar.
This establishment is located on the Riverwalk, underneath the Hilton Palacio Del Rio hotel, so it’s very convenient to anyone staying in this specific hotel. It has an indoor section that is larger than I expected, plus an outdoor section. I chose the outdoor because I wanted to be near the Riverwalk and people- watch as I dined. But it’s nice to know that such a large interior exists for those days/nights with outdoor dining is less than friendly.
River’s Edge Café and Patio Bar serves American food like soups, salads, sandwiches, etc plus enchiladas, grilled plates, and a few other items. There is a brunch and breakfast menu, too, available during specified times of the day. The food is good overall, even if nothing to rave about, and I like the extensive drink menu. They have specialty cocktails, wine, and a decent selection of beer. I would prefer to have more beer options, especially some craft beer options brewed in the San Antoinio area, but they didn’t have any. Still, I was satisfied enough with the choices I was given.
I found my dinner enjoyable overall. The only real issue I can think of was the fact that it took the wait staff a little longer than usual to check back on our table. Had they been more attentive there is a good chance we would have ordered another round of drinks. But other than that, I liked my food, drink, and view enough to give the River’s Edge Café and Patio Bar a...
