Bird Rock Coffee Roasters — Restaurant in San Diego

I never leave reviews, but after the past few visits I feel like I have to. The cashiers are usually sweet, but the baristas are consistently rude. Every time it feels like I’m interrupting their hangout instead of being a customer. I work in the area and always leave feeling ignored and unwelcome. Something as simple as a hello and a smile would go a long way. Instead, when I asked for a straw, the barista turned her back, pointed to a couple of random straws that looked left behind, then went right back to drinking her drink and chatting with her coworker. This place is right next to the friendliest Trader Joe’s, which makes the poor attitude here even worse. The baristas don’t seem to care and carry a “don’t care” attitude. Bird rock is an awesome local coffee shop in San Diego. The liberty station area is such a cool little spot, with all the shops and small businesses, very walkable sidewalks and perfusion of greenery and clean streets. I’d love to be able to live here. The staff were friendly, fast and efficient. Foot traffic was steady as I sipped my latte and the team did a great job keeping up with the line and requests.

I really enjoyed breakfast at Bird Rock this morning. I had a delicious cheese danish along with my vanilla latte and a to-go drip coffee. The latte was very smooth, perfect foam and the barista did a nice job pouring the milk to create a pattern in the crema, always makes for a nice espresso drink. The house medium drip was perfectly balanced flavor-wise, I could have gone for another cup.

During our visit to the Morena Boulevard location, we had a disappointing experience. We usually go to the Del Mar one, where we've never had any issues. Yesterday, we went to this location at around 3:40 pm to grab two coffees. At 4 pm, the manager closed the store and closed the main door and told us that we had to exit through the back door. Two minutes later, she informed us that we had to leave the premises because they needed to clean the floor and no one could be present during that process. I had to leave with my half-full coffee, and they didn't even provide me with a lid. They should have informed us beforehand that they would close at 4 pm so that we could have been better prepared.
