I give it one star for the lack of service. I purchased two scones, a lemonade, and an affogoto. The scones we're good, the lemonade was ok, but I was disappointed with the fact that the girl that took my order didn't tell me when my affogoto was done. It's a really small cafe, and it was not busy. She never told me it was ready. When I asked if this (pointing to it) was my order she said barley indicated yes. She was dismissive and nonchalant. Most of my ice cream was pretty melted because it sat for too long. (It was a scoop of vanilla ice cream with espresso) This is why I don't tip at these places. First of all, you're a cashier, and maybe putting together a drink. Second, I don't even know if you'll get a simple drink order right. Why would I tip you before the experience is complete? And if that is why I get bad service, well there are too many other good places I can give my money to. Why return to a place with lackluster service? You're either sore I didn't tip you, hence crappy service. Or your a salty teenager who hasn't been trained well in customer service. Either way, I'll find a coffee and scone...

Perfect little coffee shop located walking distance from one of the most family friendly beaches in San Diego. I surf at La Jolla Shores Beach 3-4 mornings a week and almost always grab a post-surf coffee at Brick & Bell. I’m trying to cut back on their scones but I haven’t been too successful (neighborhood favorite). They have indoor and outdoor tables but I always opt for outdoor, under umbrellas, on the street. It feels like you’re in Europe for a minute as you walk all the people go by (many of which have sandy toes from the beach).

Only reason I have two stars is because staff only smiles 50% of the time. That might be a European thing too. I don’t go here for the warm welcome but I left them an empty star in case they want to work on something, not that they need to. ... also, I’m a little buzzed from my iced americano as...

Situated in La Jolla, this business certainly demonstrates resilience. Its food must be commendable to sustain its presence in such a competitive environment. However, a 5-star rating requires more than just decent food. One would hope for patient and informative service when navigating unfamiliar menu items. Regrettably, this wasn't my experience. While another customer raved about their coffee and received VIP treatment, my experience was starkly different. Their scones, though, deserve a notable mention - a solid 4.5 out of 5, not overly sweet, just the way I prefer. A piece of advice: equitable treatment towards all customers could potentially enhance the return rate. But whether that's a priority for them...

Great espresso cafe… super chill — quick, kind customer service. Great prices (local not tourist prices). Tables inside and also- outside on a shaded sidewalk & tree-lined patio. A lot of drinks both hot and cold… (lemonade. OJ, Arnold Palmer, Frappuccino, etc. etc.) Breakfast, lunch—great vegetarian options (vegan too :). Salads, sandwiches, pastries… Great selection of coffees and teas— Oat-milk and almond milk options , protein shakes-smoothies, fruit and veggie juices... Great, chill local La Jolla treasure… Sit at a table and enjoy— or to-go.. parking is good —best before 10:00 am. Great neighborhood to park and walk to .. right up the street (2 blocks ) from a very cool kayak shop.

From the super fresh and delicious food 🥐 to the friendly staff, we always love Brick and Bell. Killer cappucinos☕️ and mini scones - especially love the honey maple walnut but they’re all fantastic. The wi-fi is great and they have a cute “secret” back patio if you need a bit of quiet but really we love the cute birds who hang out in front (sparrows, finches, all sorts). On weekdays you’ll get all the local color from wetsuit-clad surf instructors to kayak outfitter crews to chatty students and business types peering intently into Zoom. Our favorite casual breakfast in La Jolla Shores (after 15 yrs).

i’ve had bad matcha lattes before but this wasn’t JUST bad. calling it a matcha latte would be an insult to all the mediocre ones i’ve had. it tasted like pure milk with an overwhelming, horrible saccharine taste due to the excess artificial vanilla syrup. the clumpy powder they call “matcha” was nowhere to be found in this mix. i was crying before entering the cafe due to personal issues. after having a sip of this abomination, i genuinely cried more and my issues suddenly didn’t seem as bad as this “latte”. had to immediately throw this out!
