I give it one star for the lack of service. I purchased two scones, a lemonade, and an affogoto. The scones we're good, the lemonade was ok, but I was disappointed with the fact that the girl that took my order didn't tell me when my affogoto was done. It's a really small cafe, and it was not busy. She never told me it was ready. When I asked if this (pointing to it) was my order she said barley indicated yes. She was dismissive and nonchalant. Most of my ice cream was pretty melted because it sat for too long. (It was a scoop of vanilla ice cream with espresso) This is why I don't tip at these places. First of all, you're a cashier, and maybe putting together a drink. Second, I don't even know if you'll get a simple drink order right. Why would I tip you before the experience is complete? And if that is why I get bad service, well there are too many other good places I can give my money to. Why return to a place with lackluster service? You're either sore I didn't tip you, hence crappy service. Or your a salty teenager who hasn't been trained well in customer service. Either way, I'll find a coffee and scone...
Read morePerfect little coffee shop located walking distance from one of the most family friendly beaches in San Diego. I surf at La Jolla Shores Beach 3-4 mornings a week and almost always grab a post-surf coffee at Brick & Bell. I’m trying to cut back on their scones but I haven’t been too successful (neighborhood favorite). They have indoor and outdoor tables but I always opt for outdoor, under umbrellas, on the street. It feels like you’re in Europe for a minute as you walk all the people go by (many of which have sandy toes from the beach).
Only reason I have two stars is because staff only smiles 50% of the time. That might be a European thing too. I don’t go here for the warm welcome but I left them an empty star in case they want to work on something, not that they need to. ... also, I’m a little buzzed from my iced americano as...
Read moreSituated in La Jolla, this business certainly demonstrates resilience. Its food must be commendable to sustain its presence in such a competitive environment. However, a 5-star rating requires more than just decent food. One would hope for patient and informative service when navigating unfamiliar menu items. Regrettably, this wasn't my experience. While another customer raved about their coffee and received VIP treatment, my experience was starkly different. Their scones, though, deserve a notable mention - a solid 4.5 out of 5, not overly sweet, just the way I prefer. A piece of advice: equitable treatment towards all customers could potentially enhance the return rate. But whether that's a priority for them...
