Corner Bakery Cafe — Restaurant in San Diego

Very good location, comfortable, friendly staff. Was in the area and stopped in for a quick meal. This struck as as a Panera-style place, and the menu seemed similar. I had a VERY good salad - the Berry Pecan Salad - because Blue Cheese is one of the only cheese that I don't care for, I asked if they would swap out the cheese and they were accommodating (I choose mozzarella, but they had a number of options). It was my main meal, so I ordered the larger size, and the portion was perfect. The dressing was really good, but next time I probably won't use it all because the salad had great flavor with the berries and candied pecans. The hubs had a sandwich and I'm drawing a blank about what it was - I want to say BBLT? Whatever he ordered, he enjoyed. I would have given them 4 stars (because I do think that compared to similar restaurant types they deserve 4 stars), but we stood at the counter for a number of minutes before someone came to help us. I know people are busy and appreciate that, but it's super easy to look up at us and acknowledge us simply by "someone will be with you in a moment".

Happened to be walking down the street exploring downtown; saw the sign, and thought I'd give this place a shot.

Entering, I was a bit confused. There was a little area to sit but no real guidance on where to order or if you're supposed to take a seat and they come to you? There were no hand held menus that didn't look like kids coloring books. Similar atmosphere to a Panera Bread but without a chain experience. To provide a little more insight on this place.

Pros: -Coffee -Open seating to have a conversation -Convenient downtown location -WiFi available

Cons: -No pancakes available at time I arrived, not sure if this is their signature item? -Plate/Tray cafeteria format, no direction on where to return them once you finished eating -Inconsistent consistency of salt/pepper shakers on the tables, some had them some didn't.

I would say this is a place you could sit, have a conversation and some coffee if you needed someplace to meet. Could use an update as well as some better...

I was considering using Corner Bakery Cafe to feed a company function, but I had never tried their food, so today I went to the location that would be delivering the food for our meeting and ordered a Southwest Salad. The restaurant was not crowded on a Friday just before noon, and my order came up very quickly. However...I've posted a picture because presentation was pretty disappointing - think Panera with bruised lettuce. The avocado dressing was tasty (while it lasted), but digging into the salad, all I tasted was onions from the corn salsa that had been dumped over most of the top. Three stars for fast, accurate, friendly service and a clean dining room, but the Corner Bakery Cafe really needs work on making meals more appetizing...and ALWAYS remember that people may be shopping for more than just...
