I found this salon since it was well reviewed and affordable, unfortunately; for what you save in price, it reflects in the costs you pay to fix the poor hair cut you receive.
I requested a trim to remove my dead ends which is something I have gotten at least twice a year for the majority of my life and am very familiar with how easy it is. My hair stylist was very friendly, and we talked about how many years she's been doing hair so I trusted her experience. Days following my haircut, I noticed that there were strands that felt longer than they were supposed to, particularly in the back that were longer than the middle pieces. I kept moving my hands through and styling it in different ways to see if I was making it up. This morning, I went to a different salon in downtown San Diego. This hair stylist took the time to evaluate my hair in different angles, flat ironed my hair, and took a picture of the before and after. Prior to her fixing it, a chunk of hair was evidently significantly longer than the rest and there were also scattered strands that were poorly trimmed. Thankfully, my hair was able to be fixed.
I called Gio and Gio salon to express this, and the woman who listened did not at any point attempt to offer an apology or some type of retribution. Instead, she started questioning me and then told me she will have her manager call me. The manager Gio on the phone was immediately defensive by saying that this hair stylist has been working there for 17 years. At no point in the conversation was he apologetic or attempted to make any type of reconciliation for such a poor hair cut. It is this type of customer service that is so disheartening to see and really brings the value of a business down. Despite other reviews saying that Gio is so friendly, he certainly does not know how to handle dissatisfied customers well and was rude and disrespectful.
The hair stylist at the new salon I went to recommended I do not return to Gio and Gio, and I would advise you to...
Read moreGio & Gio is the best, most reliable, and most reasonably priced hair salon that has ever done my hair! I've been going to Gio & Gio since February of 2019, when I was a freshman at SDSU and had a white platinum bob. As background, I am a natural level 5 brunette with thin, straight hair. I would go every 4-6 weeks for root touch ups, and surprisingly, my hair stayed very healthy during that time period. I have been a loyal customer ever since. Since COVID restrictions lifted in 2021, I've been going to them for a blonde ashy balayage about twice a year. I always leave feeling luxurious and grateful for the reasonable mid-tier price point. As of this month, I made an egregious mistake by using my extra ClassPass credits at a new stylist for my balayage maintenance and haircut. This stylist threw bleach on my hair in random places like it was a painting and barely toned any of my hair. I left with orange and yellow streaks along with random platinum pieces that were tinged red and green. (last picture, before I got color correction at Gio & Gio). I could have done a better job on my bathroom floor. The next day, Gio, the kind and thoughtful owner, got me into the downtown location and assigned three stylists (two of them were Logan and Thomas) to work on my extensive color correction. The end result was beautiful and perfect! (first two pictures) The care the stylists put into my hair was immeasurable, and as always, it was an affordable and reliable option. I always recommend the salon to all my college friends and now grad school friends, and they have nothing but praise to say after going.I only let Gio & Gio touch my hair from now on. Please go to Gio & Gio if you want to feel like a million bucks without paying an arm...
Read moreNormally i do not make comments as long as i do not really love the place but this was my worst hair salon experience and i decided to to let people know because most of the time at least for a month you have to live with an ugly hair. So normally i have a hair stylist but this place was closer and i heard good thinks about it so i went there to have new highlights, i already had platinum ends but roots my roots came out then i showed them a picture of a hair that i want. She told me it wont be the same, i said that's ok it can never be the same but similar to this and i told her maybe more than 10 time i really do not want 2 things, one of it reddish blond the other one is ashy blond. I was even thinking I'm being rude and bothering her by repeating this too many times. She first did root color then highlight and it came out dart on the roots and ashy on the ends of my hair. The other girl tried to fix it but it did not change much, i was really upset because it was not just they could not do what i want they also ruined what i had. As a plus when she was trying to fix my hair, my scalp was burning a lot because they used a lot of stuffs, i know when you color your hair it burns but this was a lot more than normal. I don't even know how she could get all ashy on my ends. I did not let her dry my hair and just left. I got more angry when she told me that she already said it won't be the same with the picture but it was not even close and it turned out what i really hate and told many time times that i don't want. When i wanted to pay the owner said that i don't need to pay but i paid the half of it plus tip because they spend 6 hours to...
