Our first visit there was after the March 4 Trump Rally at Seaport Village. Had no idea what to expect other than I figured it would be a safe place to wear my "Make America Great Again" hat and have lunch while we were in San Diego. Had the Polish Brat's with everything and a simple cheese pizza, soft drinks, and a good time. The brat was great (I'd do it again), but the thin crust pizza was excellent. Veeeerrrry casual place, with a real eclectic mish mash of fun and interesting collectable stuff.

Great funky place with good food, great beer and Mario, who is beyond description. Edit June 2023: Alas Mario has passed onto that great Cafe in the sky but his family is running it and everything is status quo. Food is still great. Service is still awesome. Decor is still funky. Definitely worth your time. Oh, and here are some old videos of Mario.

Eric, the staff guy, is the very best, but . . . Bad News . . . Come early in the week! 5000 perogies made only on Sunday AND ALL are sold by Wednesday night! (restaurant closed Sundays to make these perogies). Good News . . . The menu is full of other wonderful options, I ordered the MEGA Kielbasa Chili Cheese Dog, yummy!

I had driven by this place so many times and always wanted to stop but never had the time. That changed last night when I was at Modern Times with some friends. I started getting hungry so I found Hancock Street Café on google. There was no website so I looked at the hours on google (open until 10). I looked on Yelp and saw that the hours were open until 9pm. It was 8 pm and my friends and I walked down the block to get some dinner. The doors were open, the lights were all on and the open sigh was lit up. We walked in and there was one other couple inside. We waited at the counter to order when the employee (owner) came out of the kitchen, looked at us with disgust on his face and said "I'm closed". I looked the time on my phone and it was 8:04. I look at him with confusion and said "I am sorry, I saw the open doors, the open sign lit up and your hours on line was closing at 10, and somehow I came to the incorrect conclusion". If you are not going to have a web sight with your hours I think it is your obligation to make sure that the hours posted on google or yelp are correct. This person should NOT be in the hospitality business and clearly is not happy being in business. Please read others reviews, I am not the only person that has experienced his poor attitude and demeaner. I will NOT...

I was really hoping for this place to become a new "go-to", but it was quite a disappointment.

The place itself is VERY eclectic, super random decorations, apparently it has a backyard that seems pretty interesting in the photos, but I didn't get to see it. It seems like the original owner passed away last year, and I have the feeling that the spirit of this place (and the taste of sandwiches) passed away with him. My expectations were sort of high for the food, considering the 4.2 stars on Google, and I don't mind weird places (even though has a creepy vibe of some sort), but the sandwich was really bad...I threw away most of it (and I HATE throwing food away). I got the bratwurst one, and it came DROWNED in mustard. All I could taste was that, the bread was soaked in it. I had to throw out breadm grilled onions and the pickles, and at least eat the bratwurst (that wasn't all that great either). It didn't seem like there was any love put into that poor sandwich. On top of it all, they are very explicitly Trump supporters...so I guess you either love it or hate it. I am not for Trump at all, but I was keen to get over that for a good sandwich...which sadly wasn't all that great....

I am highly disappointed by this place. The owner is not only rude, but doesn’t seem interested in hosting guests either. I’ve attempted to come here 4 times within through past 3 years of my living in San Diego, for some authentic Polish food. They have been closed every single time, with no warning on any of their public pages (yelp, google, social media, etc). I didn’t fault the owner for closing down after certain holidays, and was willing to give it another shot. Tonight, after calling 3 times today with no answer, we came 50 minutes before the posted closing time online. The owner could not have been ruder, saying he closed 10 minutes ago. The exchange was unpleasant, and continued beyond that, but I think his actions speak enough for themselves. Don’t give this guy your money, go support a better...
