Modern Times Beer — Restaurant in San Diego

My friend recommended Modern Times during our most recent visit to San Diego. The brewery is located in a sketchy area on Greenwood & Kurtz. This brewery is considered to be fairly new but I think they are doing a solid job.

The place doesn't look like much from the outside but once you step foot inside, the wow factor goes through the roof. Since Orange County is upcoming with new breweries, we are used to a certain style. Rooms being way too congested and not much space to enjoy the environment, but with Modern Times it's the complete opposite. The atmosphere is spacious, clean, and interested decorated. The first thing which caught my eye were the comic book used as wallpaper to the left hand side of the brewery and a huge post-it mural to the right.

Luckily it wasn't crowded during our visit. We were able to find seating quite easily, a huge round table to the left side of the bar. There we enjoyed the atmosphere, broke out some cards & Connect Four.

Now it's time for the beer... We ordered the $10 flights of four which poured to perfection. I decided to try one of their special releases "New Harmony". This was a good choice on that hot day; crisp, light and refreshing. The locals present at the brewery were also friendly. No one was being obnoxious and were just friendly people. The staff was kind, patient, and courteous to our entire group. Modern Times also offers a decent selection of merchandise such as T-shirts, glassware ($4 pint), books, and other take home items.

Modern Times was definitely a memorable experience and can't wait to go back! Highly...

I won't recommend this brewery because every single person working there wants to get out at 10 pm o`clock like this job was the worst in the world (bad actitude). I got there at 9:55 and one lady told us that they were closed but we could buy some beers to go, and then the girl of the "beers to go" told us that the brewery was already closed. We were there 5 minutes before the "closed" and they refused to sell us one beer (we are tourist). Two minutes before they had to close the door and we certainly hadn't known about their bad actitude. Finally they kicked us 5 minutes early to close... Everything is because they don't really sell the mark of the company, they are sadly employees. Modern Times have to give them sth extra. 03/10/2019. I’m really sad to have to give this review, but as a restaurant person I feel that your business needs to know. We came in on Tuesday had 2 bartenders that were fantastic (5stars) , great atmosphere, we came in tonight/ thurs, male bartender was nice but inattentive, female bartender with green nails was awful. We would have had many more rounds but left after 2. Both bartenders were talking to their regulars, and paying zero attention to anyone else. The female was eating chips and drinking beer behind the bar. Which could be seen as no biggie but she touched her fingers to her mouth after each bite and touched her nose, never washing her hands, and proceeded to take payments AND serve drinks. totally bummed for a brewery that me and my partner normally love...
