Last night after a busy day at work, the last thing I wanted to do was make food at home so I went and tried the falafel plate from Shawarma House on Newport Ave (formal Spinnerās location), and it definitely hit the spot! This photo is deceiving of the size as this dish isnāt just a meal, itās easily two meals, maybe even three, thanks to the generous portions of rice, fresh salad, and some of the best hummus Iāve ever tasted. Seriously, the hummus was next-level creamy with just the right balance of flavor.
The big falafel balls were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, elevated even further by the heavenly white garlic paste drizzled on top. Every bite had me wanting more. Once I was completely full, I couldnāt stop taking one more bite, then one more bite etc⦠that I had to physically hide the food out of sight. And even when I was putting it away, I took more bites. š
Shawarma House had some big shoes to fill after taking over the spot where Spinnerās once stood. Iām happy to say theyāve not only filled those shoes but are rocking them proudly. The friendly team here is putting out top-notch food, and I couldnāt be more stoked to have them on Newport Ave. While waiting for my food, I kept hearing a single bell ring over and over. Curiosity got the best of me, so I asked what it was. Turns out, it was nonstop orders coming in from delivery services like DoorDash. Looks like the word is already out on this local gem!
I also included a previous photo of the chicken Shawarma plate that I had and was...

I donāt usually write reviews, but this shawarma restaurant absolutely deserves the praise. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine smiles and warm hospitality. The staff are incredibly kind, attentive, and professional ā you can tell they truly care about making every guest feel welcome.
Now letās talk about the food: absolutely phenomenal. The shawarma was perfectly seasoned, the meat was tender and juicy, and the balance of flavors was spot on. Every bite felt like a trip to the Middle East. The portions are generous, the ingredients are fresh, and their house-made sauces? Simply next level. You can taste the love and authenticity in every dish.
The ambiance is just as impressive ā clean, cozy, and inviting, with a modern yet authentic touch. Whether youāre grabbing a quick bite or enjoying a meal with friends, the vibe makes you want to stay longer.
In short, this place checks all the boxes: top-quality food, exceptional service, and a fantastic atmosphere. If youāre looking for the best shawarma in town, look no further. This spot is an absolute gem, and Iāll definitely be...

I got lucky with a parking spot right in front of the restaurant but I had prepared myself to drive around a bit to find parking. If you find a spot within a mile, just go ahead and park.
The boy manning the counter was really sweet and so respectful!! I hope you go far in life. I was expecting small portions for the entrees but the portions were and the prices are very reasonable. I ended up taking half my meal home. I got the portion pita and the falafel because you can't come to a Mediterranean restaurant and NOT have falafel! Portion pita is beef and chicken in the pita. The beef was on the sweeter side and the chicken was more savory. It took a few bites to get into this sweet and savory flavor train but I was digging it as I finished my one half. The falafel was the star. Big pieces, freshly made and so soft to bite into. It is one of the best falafel I've had in San Diego for sure.
All in all, I had a great time enjoying their lovely food and hospitality. I will be back and this time, I'm bringing people so they can experience this...
