Tunaville Market and Grocery is awesome. Business Partners Tommy Gomes and Mitch Conniff brought this newest addition to Driscoll's Wharf to support the local San Diego fishermen with offerings ranging from local rockfish to dry aged bluefin.
I come here regularly for the freshly made poke, ceviche, and seafood salads made daily. Tommy, Sunny and David are extremely knowledgeable and helpful with ideas on how to prepare the various seafood behind the counter. Since the shop sells freshly caught items from the local fishermen, the menu changes daily. I love the variety of the offerings and knowing that they're all fresh and locally caught.
The shop also has shelves of local pantry items for cooking such as seasonings, oils, and sauces. Sometimes there are samplings of these products paired with the fresh catch to give you ideas on how to cook at home.
Overall, really happy with the staff and the quality of the seafood. I appreciate that the support is for the local fishing...
Read moreMy wife and I were fortunate to attend "A Evening of Seafood with Tommy Gomes" at Solare restaurant in Liberty Station. Tommy's seafood shone brightly as prepared by Executive Chef Denice Grande. All the following fish are available at Tunaville Market within season. We started with a carpaccio of 32 day dry-aged Bigeye Tuna that Tommy carved on site in a demo of knife skill. I never heard of dry-aging fish but this was tasty, still moist and had a little of the dry-aged funk around the edges. Next up, the highlight for me, Sea-Cuterie, sausages in the style of Italian, Chorizo and Linguicia made from Thresher Shark. Again, unknown to me. If you didn't know it was shark you wouldn't guess it was any different. Amazing! A nice big Baja Shrimp scampi style, Risotto with Spiny Lobster and Vermillion Rockfish rounded out the menu. There are other fish markets in San Diego but none of them have Tommy Gomes and his imaginative team creating itms like these in a sustainable manner....
Read moreWe stop in Tunaville Market & Grocery every time we can. We love walking down by the water and stopping in to see what fresh seafood dish we can't pass up that day. I love their octopus, whether in a salad or delicious pieces of tentacle, I look forward to it each time. Tommy is there sometimes and a couple of times we have just missed him. He and his staff are so sweet and friendly, they make it more of an experience. Tommy gave us a taste of Swordfish spinal marrow of some type garnished with lime zest and it just melted in your mouth, one of the tastiest bites of food I have ever had. It was so fun to talk with Tommy, he spoke quite a bit with our son who is getting ready to enlist in the Coast Guard, and then signed a book and gave it to him. If you are in the area, stop by and see what they have,...
