Beresford Arms Hotel — Restaurant in San Francisco

My partner and I stayed at this hotel from Friday to Sunday this past weekend, and the over all service was not enjoyable. The woman working the evening of Friday, took three times being told that my partner had a scooter and needed to be let in from the Ada accomodation door on the side of the hotel. Those three times came from myself, my partner, and even a ADA Uber driver who was nice enough to help us. After being let in, and during the check out process, that same woman was disrespectful. She stated to us that my partner, could not be in the same space during breakfast in the morning and during tea and wine offered in the evenings as other guests who are offered the same, due to someone having allergies. Essentially telling us that the hotel would accomadate the person with allergies to avoid any complaints on their behalf and not my partner who is disabled. This is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which states that both the person who is allergic and the person with a disability have to be accomodated. Secondly, an establishment can not ask for documentation that the animal is a Service Animal, this is also against the ADA. My partner was forced to provide proof that the Animal was infact a service animal.

Third, my partner did book this place due to the stated wheelchair accessibility, however when the woman looked at our reservation, she wanted to further be discriminate and tell us we could only book a room that was ADA accomodating. So when she attempted to give us an upgrade to the room, this woman after we were already charged, failed to remember that there were three steps on the floor she booked us in, and the irony to it is , she walked right by those steps when she opened the Ada accomodation door on the side of the hotel. There is no excuse for this behavior, and is a reflection of poor training and management. Its discrimination done on purpose and isn't going to be taken lightly. A federal protection is a protection for a reason , not for any establishment to pick and choose what to follow and what not to follow. DO BETTER!

We ended up having to pay for a different type of room all together. When I attempted to educate her on the ADA regulations, she proceeded to say that this was hotel policy. I stated to her that the Americans with Disabilities Act, is Federal and Trumps that policy. She refused to be educated , and when we asked to speak with her manager after the fact, she stated to us that the manager would not be back till Tuesday. This didn't help us at all. It is unacceptable, and disheartening.

Although the hotel is beautiful for how old it is, the stay and mistreatment was not worth it. Theres barely enough heat from the radiator in the room to keep you warm. The windows aren't insulated and its loud in the evenings. Fire trucks, and police sirens repeatedly going off.

I strongly advise that if you are someone who is disabled and have to use a wheelchair or Scooter, that you do not stay at this establishment. Because the hotel only cares about abled bodied people not those who are disabled for their own self image, all the while trying to play it like they are inclusive...

We stayed at The Beresford Arms for six nights in mid November. We were fortunate to be assigned a suite at the back end so that the traffic noise was muted. The space with bird prints on the walls was huge and comfortable for the price we were paying. We had the option of changing linens every day or not. The bathroom was clean and provided a bidet as well as toilet. The cleaning service was excellent. The fittings were gold (new) and the older faucets were brass. There were two sinks which proved convenient since both my wife and I could clean up and dress without competition for mirror or sink. The two beds were comfortable although one was too soft. A full length mirror was provided. We did not use the television at any time and so were not bothered about lack of cable TV. We were on holiday and had voluntarily divorced all need of Wifi. We never found out if either was provided. The kitchen was very convenient - with a stove; refrigerator; little dining table; microwave; coffee machine; dishes and cutlery, and of course a sink. The hotel did not provide in-room coffee but we bought our own ground coffee and brewed it ourselves. Guests may bring up coffee from the foyer if they do not brew their own. We were very comfortable. There were some interesting touches in the foyer. The post Victorian gold trimmings and layout of the space there was accommodating. On the first day we attended the Tea session (4pm to 6pm I think) with complementary wine. In one corner, a grandfather clock frozen at half past four, reminded me that there may have been once a time when great expectations were rife in this room. Except for the traffic outside on Post Street, time also appeared to have slowed down and I for one felt transported back to a previous more genteel era. Breakfast was also pleasant. The pastries were plentiful but quality-wise not much to write home about. The cut-up fresh fruit (melons and watermelon) was similarly plentiful, and from the third day, for breakfast we simply brought up some of it from the breakfast spread to supplement some fine cheese and breads we had bought at an organic farmer's market (Sundays only) on Clement Street in Richmond. We found the Hotel staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about trips around the city; nearby shopping; and restaurants. The Hotel is well positioned for easy access to all areas of our interest. If you have a car, parking requires uncalled-for patience and is very expensive. We were glad we did not rent one. Overall, It was a pleasant experience and we will certainly return. My wife thought that without air conditioning, it might be different in the summer but if what Mark Twain is reputed to have said about the San Francisco weather is true, then there may be no need of...

Visited San Francisco for the first time and knowing the city is expensive searched for a hotel that was affordable and centrally located to sites. Read online this was a reasonable place and validating it is. Just a couple things to note: this is not a 5 star hotel. The lobby is grand and at a former time it might have been a 5 star hotel which is now aged in time. I picked this hotel because it had an option for 3 queen beds which made it easier for my family. The room set up was large and nice. Looks like an apartment with a living room kitchen and full bath. The large bedroom is very large and has closets and dressers that make your stay very organized. The rooms are dated older carpet and worn wallpaper but it was super nice and very clean. The beds were made very near with fresh white linens and comforters that were plush. The water pressure in the shower was strong and nice hot water. The sinks were a little old and handles looking a little rusty. But ample towels Kleenex toilet paper provided. Bathroom had a bidet. Two tvs one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Note free internet is provided but very slow and the tvs use analog so all the images are grainy. A small breakfast is provided in the lobby. It’s basically apples and granola bars yogurt and baked goods. It’s not great more like Walmart breakfast but it served its purpose. Afternoons between 4:30-5 they give wine and cheese in the lobby. I didn’t get to try but sounds like a nice touch. As it’s an older hotel the heating is through radiators. Since I came in spring I felt fit was too warm and there is no air conditioning in the rooms. I noticed the closet has the old fashioned square fans for use. We left the windows open but because of the street traffic it was noisy. San Francisco has a huge homeless problem so vagrants everywhere and night time w lot of noise. While the room was nice the environment around wasn’t the best. The staff was friendly. Parking is valet parking $45 for regular car and more for SuV or vans. There is no parking close by so valet parking was our only option. I was worried at first but it ended up being the best option nice and safe. Although they do warn not to leave anything in the car as cars do get robbed frequently. Again problem with the city not the hotel. Overall price was great stay was nice staff were good.
