Let the first line of my review, be all you need when deciding whether to patron Chisme Catina SF; ITS THE BEST MEXICAN CUISINE {Hands Down} In San Francisco. Now, I know, that’s high praise, because SF is a foodie city and has a rich cultural history for Mexican and Latino cuisine. Chisme sets itself apart from other restaurants because of the: (a) Quality of food, (b) Unique and healthy variety, (3) Sangrias, and (4) Quality of staff and leadership. I had the opportunity to interact with one of the managers at Chisme, Maria, and she is the ABSOLUTE BEST. In addition to the amazing food and drink choices, the quality of personnel at any business, is of the utmost importance. Feeling cared for in addition to leaving satisfied is what makes Chisme one of SF’s best kept secrets. Now, everything on the menu is good, but, the Shrimp Burrito / Taco is the BOMB! The portions are generous and quality of the ingredients are unmatched. I had the Shrimp Burrito, Chips and Guacamole, and I couldn’t have been more satisfied. Now, what makes this even better, especially for Vegans / Vegetarians, are the jack fruit tacos. Yes, you read that right, jack fruit tacos. This place has everything and is worth a try. Also, if you’re looking for a job, Chisme Is Hiring!

Cool little taco joint with plenty of vegan options and also chicken, steak, and shrimp choices. It’s located within walking distance of Union Square. I had the Via Via tacos (2 for $9). They were served on doubled up corn tortillas to contain the contents they were stuffed with. The foundation was fried plantains, topped with a delicious mango salsa, a creamy coconut based ranch dressing (it tastes NOTHING like coconut), black beans, and leafy greens. It also came with a creamy hot sauce on the side. It was creamy, but had a really complex, spicy taste to it. I couldn’t figure out what it was, so I asked, and she told me it was habanero pepper, jalapeno pepper, and agave. You WANT to get the hot sauce - trust me on this one! All of the tacos come in pairs and the cost runs between $9 and $12 - they have quesadillas too! Beer situation: Four bottled or canned beers - Modelo Negra, Modelo Especial, Corona, and Tecate. They also have four beers on tap by Bare Bottle Brewing Company - it’s my understanding that these rotate in and out on a regular basis. They also have sangria. I recommend this place and give it four veggies (er, I mean four stars).

Great gluten free/vegan friendly taco place in the area. While I would say that the tacos are on the pricier side, they have a wide selection for those who are vegan or have a gluten free diet. Cute place with enough variation in the menu that I would want to go back and try more options. My friend and I shared the cauliflower ceviche. It was tasty but I really felt like the hot sauce they provided made the dish better. My friend ordered the quinoa bowl which looked like a hearty salad and I ordered the mahi mahi tacos. Each order comes with two tacos. At first, I wasn’t sure if it would be enough but the pieces of fish they provide are a good portion and I was pretty full by the end. The place is clean and they have water available as well as a selection of other drinks. You order at the register and then you seat yourself anywhere available.

I recently dined at Chisme Cantina and was blown away by their innovative take on Mexican cuisine. The restaurant’s focus on healthy, vegan options really sets it apart, and you can tell the owner/chef pours his heart into every recipe.

I started with the cauliflower ceviche—a dish marinated in coconut milk overnight that was absolutely out of this world. The flavors melded together beautifully, creating a light, refreshing start to my meal.

Next, I tried the vegan tacos featuring eggplant and jackfruit. They were perfectly cooked—neither oily nor greasy—and spiced with a delightful fresh mint sauce that reminded me of mint chutney usually served with Indian tikkas. The addition of a roasted tomato salsa on the side provided a fresh and tangy counterpoint that elevated the entire dish.

Overall, Chisme Cantina is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore a creative, health-conscious twist on traditional Mexican fare. I can’t wait to return and try more of their...
