ATTENTION, BE AWARE! great pinsa, BUT: we were here twice and both times this happened: the check is put on the table with the side were everything is written down, so you can't read it. A card reader is handed to you right away, before you took a look at the invoice and, as always in san francisco, the card reader asks for 18 or 20% tip at the display - fine. BUT they added 20% on their own already at the invoice, so if you don't realize that, they add 20 on their own and then you add another 18 or 20 by choosing this option at the card reader. I guess they often get 38 or 40% tips this way, but come on guys, is this method really necessary? You pinsa is great, why do you do that? I have not experienced this way of trying to get "double tips" anywhere else yet and in my opinion, you should stop that.
UPDATE to answer the restaurant's comment: We visited your restaurant aprox 9 months ago, I don't know why my rating was not online earlier. If I noticed, as you write, I would have asked about it, but I did notice later, after we left already. I have described in detail how it happened. So I'm not sure how you can still think that I make this up, as you say that this just can't happen. Of course it did happen - you added 20% to your invoice and I was asked to add another 15, 18 or 20 when I did the payment. Maybe ask your employees who were there in september 2022 about it? Maybe they have som idea about this little extra fee for tourists? Or maybe it was just a toootal misunderstanding and all my fault :) It's sad, because we really liked your pinsa and lived nearby, but we really...
Read moreAs a pizza connoisseur, when I heard about Roman style pizza, 'pinsa', with a different dough, I was immediately curious. As they note on their website, pinsa dough is made from a combination of soy flour, rice flour, and wheat flour, creating a crust that is light yet crunchy and satisfying.
We ordered the Formaggio di Capra e Spinaci for some greens to go with, and then got the Quattro Formaggi and Prosciutto e Fichi for our pinsas.
I find salads from pizza places to be very hit or miss; and Gusto Pinsa's salad was certainly a hit. The salad was perfectly dressed - it had a ton of flavor with the dressing, tomatoes, goat cheese, cranberries and walnuts coming together to provide an interesting textural contrast, with a nice hit of black pepper.
The pinsas were the star of the meal though, as expected. Although I'm not the biggest fan of cheese only pizzas, the Quattro Formaggi was excellent! It was super cheesy and salty (in the perfect way), and the splotches of sauce provided nice balance to the saltiness of the cheese.
The Prosciutto e Fichi was the preferred pinsa by myself and my partner, with the prosciutto and fig glaze providing a nice saltiness and sweetness that contrasted very well with the Quattro Formaggi.
If you haven't tried Roman style pinsa yet, what are you waiting for? These pinsas were delicious and somehow felt much lighter than eating a regular pizza. We...
Read moreI would say as far as Roman Style Pinsa goes this is in last place of all the Roman Pinsa I have tried in San Francisco, which is all of them. To this date 100 San Francisco Pizza Establishments and 100% of all Roman Pinsa have been tried since May 2022. I would only recommend you try Gusto Pinsa Romana if you need to try all the Pinsa in San Francisco. Otherwise I don't think you need to try this place. It's near Del Popolo which is kind of the same story for Neapolitan Pizza. Shockingly average while seeming so legit. Figures.
Do I recommend Gusto Pinsa Romana after trying 76 establishments? Loosely at best. Far better Pinsa in San Francisco than this, for example Barbara Pinseria, Montesacro, Pinsa Rossa, Roma Antica. Even Bottega90 is better than this. Least good Romanian Pinsa in San Francisco flat out. Wouldn't even want to keep trying Pinsa if this was my first experience with it. When I think of the Pinsa I had here I feel like throwing up. It's the only Pinsa that made me feel this way. Just being honest. Gusto Pinsa Romana should thank the aforementioned establishments for being why I even gave them any business which they deserve no more of from me, just like their Neapolitan Neighbors Del Popolo.
Why would you even want food from this part of town anyway? Think about it,...
