I came here to take some pictures of the cherry blossoms with my girlfriend one afternoon. However, we came later in the blossom season so they were not as big and bright as I would’ve liked. The views of the bay were very nice and it was well maintained. There was no landscaping out of place. However, I noticed a few people using it as a gym and running up the steps for exercise. I didn’t think much of it as we descended towards the halfway point. Later on, the number of steppers increased to the point where it looked like a group exercise event. I could barely walk the steps without side stepping a heavy breathing and sweaty fitness enthusiast. After getting some sweet pics, we reached the top and meandered into the Presidio park, but we hadn’t got but a few meters down the dirt road before a gentleman warned us of coyotes further down that he’d spotted with his dog. We decided to opt out of the trek and spare our dog fufu the embarrassment. Overall the weather was slightly cool, and we felt some precipitation, but the sun warmed it...
Read moreAnother beautiful staircase in San Francisco. It was shorter than I expected, taking me about 15 minutes or less to walk all the way up and back down. If this is your first time climbing a hill in the city, you might think this spot is spectacular, but I think there are a lot of hills with much better views, steeper steps, and more to see in general (Telegraph, for example). Not to say this one isn’t great, and it’s amazing that San Francisco has so many places like these. I just keep finding more and more.
From the Lyon Street Steps, you can see the colorful neighborhoods down below, the Palace of Fine Arts, and if you visit on a day it isn’t foggy, you could probably see further into the Bay. I didn’t get that fortune. The bushes and plants complement the stairway well, although there is one tree that gets in the way of the view. There is also a heart sculpture at the midway point, next to a really fancy house....
Read moreVery steep steps, I was glad to be walking down them rather than up! Spoilt a little bit because a lot of people seemed to use those particular steps to work out, which spoils it for tourists who just want to walk on it or take pictures, so that was super annoying. There’s a little picturesque garden nestled half way down which is rated serene, and would be relaxing and calm if it wasn’t for the panting sweating people running up and down the steps constantly, so we moved on rather quickly from this to Presidio. It’s not really worth it if I’m honest, it’s just steps with a 70/100 view from the top, definitely better views around the city. If you’re looking at finding a spot to really work those calves and improve your cardio, this would be a great place to go and work out! I would definitely recommend it, if you don’t mind tourists getting annoyed or holding...
