It seems the dining situation has been picking up, the outdoor dining situation at least. Every weekend, it looks like Gott's has a sizable amount of people seated in front of the Ferry Building. When outdoor dining first reopened, I was hesitant about stepping into a restaurant again, regardless of breathing in open air. So I waited for other patrons to be our guinea pigs before joining in. So far, so good, or at least not terrible... I've never eaten at Gott's before, but I have had the Strauss soft serve, which is always good on a hot day, no complaints there.
Like all other establishments, the queue has circles placed on the ground, positioned 6 feet apart. You order at the register and take a beeper to your table. When it beeps, you take it to the food pickup station.
$10.99 Bacon Cheeseburger - American cheese, Zoe's bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, secret sauce on toasted egg bun: For this area, this is a reasonably priced burger and cooked well. It was a nice medium rare patty with a good bun to patty ratio, and had cheese melted over the patty. So important. Also, the lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles tasted fresh and crisp, and the bun was fluffy.
$3.99 Garlic Fries in garlic butter & parsley: Mr. Joy, the fry connoisseur deemed them tasty enough to polish off.
$13.99 Baja Fish Tacos - fresh mahi mahi, beer-battered & fried, in soft, organic corn tortillas with Mexican slaw, cilantro, salsa verde, lime, spicy mayo: I was aiming for something light, but these tacos were pretty big. The mahi mahi is generously portioned, the batter not too heavy, and the tart salsa verde helped cut through the fried batter.
I appreciate that the larger tables have benches with high backs to add separation from other patrons. Also, their waste situation is commendable, as they only have compost and recycling bins. All other items are reusable or washable.
Overall, the food selection is pretty typical of what you'd find from American cuisine, or from diners. Nothing out of the ordinary. I'd give the food a 7/10, and the service was on par too. One thing about ordering that could be improved - there are no menus at the register, so you need to know what you want before it is your turn to order. The enlarged menus are posted outside of the ordering queue. When we visited, the wait in line wasn't too bad. I'd still say this is a nice place to have a snack or relaxed meal as long as the wait...
Read moreWas recommended this place by a local foodie to grab a great burger. We ordered the double cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger and two fries. The food itself was good, personally I found my bun slightly on the stale side, but besides that, everything else was awesome... plus loved the hot sauce had a kick. When we arrived at 6pm, the line wasn't too long, we found a seat inside easily, and probably only waited 10-15 mins for our food which was fine and expected.
The one issue I would say is we found Carlos' approach to taking our order a bit abrupt and not so friendly. Sure the ordering was efficient, but then when we came to pay cash, when I asked if we could pay cash, he responded "on the counter when you are ready". I looked at the counter in front of me and I could see the paywave device on the counter, so I repeated myself "do you accept cash?". He responded "on the counter when you are ready". I then responded... "Oh, so you only accept card". I was clearly confused as I wasn't getting a clear response what payment options were available. Again, he responded "On the counter when you are ready", and this time he pointed to the counter next to him on his left. I realised only at that point he was communicating "put the money on this counter when you are ready". Very strange approach to communicating clearly and from my point of view, it would have been much easier to just say "Yes, we accept cash, put it on the counter here when you are ready". Maybe it's was just me, but very strange customer service approach that I'm...
Read moreI was told that this place was amazeballs and that I had to try it out. The "best burgers" in the city they said. I'll be the judge of that I said.
First a little bio. I've tried several burger joints in many different districts in this city, be it a chain, mom and pops or fast food giant.
Being in somewhat a tourist area, I was skeptic on trying the place out, but my former coworker and I decided to try it out for lunch since we wanted to try something new. I got a plain old cheeseburger just to put my feet in the water, with some fries and a side of ranch.
It's 1pm on a Tuesday, so the lunch rush has died down so we were able to order our food and start grubbin in 20 minutes. I had mixed feelings with the cheeseburger like something was missing(like I should've gotten the California burger) I was more in love with the fries with ranch which is pretty much what saved my meal. In a way the burger reminded me of Shake Shack in New York, probably due to the soft buns.
I would probably give this place another chance and try out the California burger next time and might get better results, but really the fries with ranch alone is enough to pull me back here. You know, maybe it's not even the fries, maybe it's just the ranch. That ranch is what's amazeballs here. Yeah it must be it. Make sure you try dem ranch on everything if you decide to come here....
