I'm gonna write this review straightforwardly.
The atmosphere is pretty standardānothing fancy, just a simple place that feels like eating in a kitchen, which I didnāt mind at all.
The service was excellent. The person who took my order was patient and very knowledgeable, clearly knowing what he was doing. It made the ordering process smooth and pleasant.
As for the poke bowl itself, I really enjoyed it! I appreciated how they presented the bowl. Unlike other places that mix everything with the sauce before putting it on the rice (which can look unappetizing), they kept each ingredient beautifully arranged. I chose yellowtail, spicy tuna, and marinated tunaāall of which were fresh, probably because the place is always busy and ingredients sell out quickly.
Interestingly, they donāt have a traditional poke sauce, but you can mix and match your own. I went with wasabi soy sauce, tamari soy sauce, and ponzu. Since I chose marinated tuna, the overall flavor was a bit too salty, but that was my own choice and not the restaurantās fault.
They also offer a wide variety of toppings. If you get the medium-sized bowl, you can add as many as you like, while the regular size is limited to three.
The only downside for me was the rice. They were kind enough to make sushi rice upon my request (which I really appreciated), but the texture was too soft and watery for my taste. If you prefer firmer rice, Iād suggest going with the brown rice option.
One tip for anyone visiting: I like to order spicy mayo on the side. The best way to enjoy the poke bowl, in my opinion, is to put a little bit of spicy mayo on top of the fish (or any protein), then scoop it with rice, toppings, and protein together in one bite. Itās absolutely delicious! Spicy Mayo makes everything nice and rich. Do not put too much, that ruins all flavor
Despite the rice issue, everything else was amazing, and I will definitely be back. Highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreObsessed with this place. As in one time I nearly cried when I went there only to realize it was already after 8 and it had closed for the night.
Since it's near where we live, my boyfriend stop by at least once a week, if not more. Perhaps not the cheapest option, but certainly worth it for the freshness and healthy factor. They recently introduced a rewards program that allows you to redeem points for free beverages or free poke bowls which is amazing considering how often we go.
What to expect on the menu: Choose from a large or small poke bowl or grab a sushi burrito. For bowls, you can choose from salad, brown rice or white rice. Large bowls give you 4 scoops of protein and unlimited toppings; small bowls come with 2 protein scoops and 3 toppings. A sushi burrito gives you 3 scoops of protein.
I almost always stick to the rice bowls, with the sesame shoyu sauce and cilantro. Their portions are generous and all of the ingredients are fresh and delicious. Service is friendly and they're careful with food prep (e.g. changing gloves for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHands down ā the best poke in SF. I've tried a lot of places and eventually come exclusively to I'a Poke for 2 years now. Consistently good fish. Like there was not a single time when salmon was plain ā it's always fresh, fatty, delicious. And there is a lot of it. Some poke places are cheap and put little fish and tons of rice. But in I'a Poke they're generous with their proteins, and it makes the meal delicious. I like specific stuff in my poke and this place is perfect because you can build your own bowl or sushi burrito, not put up with premade recipes. Customization is important to me since, unfortunately, I can't have spicy food. At the same time, they have a wide range of ready recipes so you can just pick one. Reasonable prices, good quality in both Church and Fillmore locations. Keep up the good work, guys! P.S. just realized I have no pics from I'A poke because I guess I finish the meal before I remember to take...
