Read about this in the newspaper today and swung by for an early dinner. Wow, what a find! I was intrigued by the tuna melt, and it is definitely not Mom’s mayo and canned tuna. Wonderfully flavorful, a bit of sauerkraut, and a very stout Acme bread to stand up to the very substantial filling. Had a side of fries, which were real potatoes and were fries. The several fish sandwiches are the stars and you can also get fish and chips.
On second visit, I had the clam chowder and the rockfish sandwich. Unlike the clam chowder I had the day before at another SF establishment, chowder that tasted like warm ice cream with clams, the NOPA Fish chowder was a flavorful broth with fresh trout, shellfish, corn, and potatoes, a truly fresh made and honest bowl. The rockfish is fried and served on a milk toast roll with a vinegary Cole slaw, pickles, a bit of jalapeño, and almost a light tartar sauce. This is unlike any other fish sandwich you have had, not the least because it starts with real fish. Significant serving of fish.

Read moreAbsolutely loved my experience at Nopa Fish! From start to finish, everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared.
The summer salad was the perfect start—vibrant, crisp, and bursting with seasonal flavors that felt like a plate of sunshine. The fish and chips were outstanding: perfectly golden, light, and flaky with a crunch that made every bite satisfying. And the star of the meal, the rockfish sandwich, was simply incredible—delicate yet packed with flavor, balanced by fresh toppings and a soft, warm bun.
The ambiance was relaxed yet elevated, and the service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. Nopa Fish truly captures the essence of coastal dining with a modern touch. Highly recommend for anyone craving fresh, thoughtfully crafted seafood...
Read moreFood really good. Atmosphere, typical for the ferry building, so vibrant Service… God awful; ruined the whole experience.
And here is why I rate the service awful. I was literally putting the last bite of food in my mouth, and a member of staff grabs my plate and my other utensils and my dirty napkins. Doesn’t even wait for me to finish swallowing the last bite or let me wipe my mouth. Then has the audacity to say thanks for dining with us. Please get up. I need the seat. I didn’t even finish chewing, I got told to get up and leave. And there were still two seats on the bench I was on my right.
At least let me take five seconds to swallow the food I paid for before you ask me to stand up.
Since you liked to be rough with customers, I’ll ask for...
