I was excited to try out a new Korean restaurant in my neighborhood. However, I am sorry to report that the food was of poor quality, and the service was even worse.
I ordered the vegetarian bibimbap. The dish had a sour aftertaste (which I suspect was caused by fish oil that the food came into contact with while it was being prepared) which left my stomach upset. I have been a vegetarian for 15 years and could tell instantly that something was off--and I had to throw the food out--it was inedible. Besides that, the ratio of rice to veggies/tofu was abysmal. It was about a 3:1 rice-to-toppings ratio, with a total of about 4 small pieces of tofu. Unsurprisingly, I reached out to Ollei to voice my concerns and request a full refund. However, I was ultimately informed that my accusation was simply "wrong," and Ollei refused to provide a refund.
Needless to say, I will not be returning to Ollei, and hope that my story serves as a warning for others who, as I was, are looking to try a new spot on Polk. Save your money and...
Read moreThis isn’t a place you’ll write home about, but if you’re under the weather or just craving something hearty, the Army Stew is a must. It’s a big bubbling pot of everything—including the kitchen sink: ham, sausage, Spam, baked beans, kimchi, instant noodles, gochujang, mushrooms, and rice cakes. Super filling—enough to feed 4 people easily. It was just my husband and me, but we still ordered it and took half home.
We also loved the seafood pancake—crispy, flavorful, and one of those dishes that’s best eaten fresh (definitely don’t save it for the next day).
These two dishes are the standouts and would get 4 stars on their own. That said, we’ve tried other items before like the fried chicken wings and bibimbap, and they didn’t hit the mark—lacking authenticity and flavor.
Stick to the Army Stew and seafood pancake, and you’re in for a comforting,...
Read moreProbably the worst korean food I’ve ever had.
The corn cheese barely had any cheese in it and was mostly chunky mayo The pictures of the bulgoki soup are incredibly deceiving. There are no mushrooms, enoki, or green onion even though pictured in their menu. The soup was way too sweet, it tasted like we were drinking simple syrup. The bulgogi was was too tough and the rice cakes were soggy. Not to mention that this soup is TINY (serves only 1 person), we expected a much bigger portion for the price point. The stir fried squid was okay, it was probably the least worst dish that we ordered. However, the sauce is just gochujang with not much other flavor. The squid tasted like frozen squid and wasn’t great in texture.
Wouldn’t recommend this place...
