Every time we visit SF we stay in Japantown area and every morning (during the last 2 visits) we had our breakfasts at Fillmore Bakeshop, which we consider THE ABSOLUTELY BEST BAKERY we ever tried not only in SF but in many places we traveled in North America. They have ONLY the fresh baked breads, quiches, cakes, pies, croissants, pastries, cookies and many other varieties of baked stuff every morning. The taste of everything we've tried was amazing and as close to perfection as it possibly can be. It's hard to imagine anything can be fund tasting better then what we ate in this tiny cute little place. The owners and their employees are very warm friendly and a pleasure to communicate people. Their service is fast and attentive. They make you feel like you are their welcomed guest, not just a patron, and after even the first visit we parted with them like good friends, who will be welcomed again and again. Do not pay attention on some of the reviewers displaying their luck of understanding what French Macarons supposed to taste like. After all they say "tastes are differ". If you ever will be in the area DO YOUSELF A FAVOUR and visit this wonderful place and decide for yourself. This could very well be one of the most memorable culinary experiences in SF, as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI hate to jump on the cronuts bandwagon. But dammit they are pretty good. I hate that its becoming a weekly event to check their Facebook early on Saturday mornings for the new flavor and then journeying over to Fillmore to wait in line with my fellow suckers. But such is life. Best fake-cronuts in the city so far, and NO I HAVEN'T tried them all yet. Ok maybe. They have the cinnamon sugar cronut from Wed-Sun. But they only have a special flavor on Saturday mornings. Like maple bacon or cookies and cream or samoas
Having tried the original one in NYC I must say I think Fillmore does a really good job. One thing it has over Dominique Ansel is that they serve them warm if you go early in the morning. 9ish. Warm cronuts are like warm Krispy Kreme on crack x100. I was disappointed with the new york version because I was used to Fillmore's warm and fresh version. Both have their pros. But it's def a great substitute until you make it to NYC. And less hassle.
I will also mention their rotating bread puddings. Love it. Once I found a pecan in it though. They told me they use day-old pastries for it, so they may or may not contain nuts depending on what leftover pastries they have left. FYI just in case you are allergic. My favorite so far is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI absolutely LOVE this bake shop. Iām so grateful itās on my walk to work every morning. The baked goods are amazingly sweet, and the ladies behind the counter and in the kitchen are even sweeter. Iām already obsessed with the Tomato Jam & Goat Cheese danish as well as the Cardamom Bun. I mean, doesnāt your mouth just water already?! But yāall! Today I went for the Toffee Coffee Cookie. Honestly I just saw toffee and actually thought it was chocolate, not coffee, but let me tell you the delightful surprise when I took my first bite and the crunch of the coffee bean perked me up!! For real, I had to stop and close my eyes for this foodie experience. Iāve never been to Paris, France, but I feel transported to a sidewalk cafe in Paris...at least what I imagine it would feel like on a beautiful Spring mid-morning. Thank you, Fillmore Bakeshop. You make my morning walk to work even if I donāt get to stop in for a treat simply by the delicious aroma that blankets Fillmore St!! Bake your hearts out!! See yāall again very soon...tomorrow...
