Pink Onion — Restaurant in San Francisco

I have been coming here since the first couple weeks they were open a few years ago. The pizza’s always delicious. The staff typically were great. But service this night was pretty poor.

Gabe met us once we approached the counter. He seemed annoyed we had a reservation and didn’t know where to seat us. There was an empty 4-seat, but this was reserved for a party of 3. (They never did show up.) He offered and we agreed on a chilly, cramped two-top—literally against a stack of pre-folded pizza boxes and abuttting the open door. It was windy and chilly. He shut the door on my request, but the oblivious delivery drivers coming in and out kept leaving it open. After 3 times I got up and told him we had to move. He offered 2 seats at the end of he bar nearest the kitchen, apparently where the takeout is put—our presence there surprised at least one other staff bringing out a stack of pizzas. My friend was told to keep the access path clear. Again, Gabe had put us there. The 4-seat table was still empty. After all this, Gabe never asked how we were doing. He did however spend plenty of his attention watching a basketball game. The woman who served our pizza and water was nice. Oddly they were out of white wine. All of them. Really?

This place cancels door dash orders and turns dashers away, even after you've been waiting 1.5 hrs for your food! We had the most interesting chat with our dasher when they finally arrived. We ordered 2 x pizzas and waited over an hour for them. Our first Dasher had been waiting for the order for over 25 mins, and the ETA of our order kept being delayed. Then the order was suddenly cancelled. I called the restaurant and they claimed they couldn't find the Dasher. Curious .. Then we replaced the order and the new Dasher was again waiting a while. I called the restaurant who confirmed they saw our second order and they said they marked it as ready for pickup. I told our second Dasher this via message on the app but they told us the restaurant had told them to wait. When the second Dasher finally arrived with our food, they told us that the restaurant was purposely CANCELLING DOOR DASH ORDERS AND TURNING DASHERS AWAY because online orders have no tips? If you don't want to take online orders, why don't you just disable your door dash account for the night? We were very confused and disappointed. We love this place but this is...

January 2022: Came here for dinner and tried two pastas, a pizza and a salad. The pastas are by far, the way to go! 👍😀

I thought the pizza 🍕 was their specialty... But I am not a big fan of the thick crust anymore. Not sure if our pizza had a little thicker crust but the pasta is superb! I think they use super fresh noodles so the pasta is al dente 😋.

Service was great. The staff was running around taking care of everything. Really appreciate their hard work.

2-24-21: Took food to go. There was a special Wednesday night special. Order a 4 course meal and get a free bottle of wine for $55. I've wanted to try this place eversince they opened but never got around to try it.

Ordered a bruce bochy 🍕, the bolognese pasta, and the veggie buratta with tiramisu dessert. Everything was super delicious. Pasta was nicely made. Tasted like the pasta was freshly made. Sauce was tasty but not super rich.

Pizza had a good amount of toppings and the crust was a moderate thickness with great flavor and crunch.
