Sizzler. That was in our young minds, the best place to get a steak! We were also there on many occasions for the "unlimited" all you can eat salad bar and would take chicken nuggets from the kids section! In our college years, We went to " Tad's Steak" on Powell St. We felt we were living the life! Rocco's is the place I go to around work to treat myself to a nice sizzling steak w/ mushrooms. For $28.95, you get a nice ribeye with a pile of mushrooms on top. It's oozing with flavor and juices. You can also get a side of plump raviolis or fries. Meatballs- housemade and it comes in two. By far, one of my favorite meatballs in the whole city! Nice, huge balls with texture and not dry at all. Your meal begins with complimentary bread and butter. But, you can request for the bread to be warmly toasted and also some olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip it in. The owner, Don is around to say hello and talk to you on most days. Due to staff shortages, customer service is slow as expected. Parking can be difficult They have many other hearty Italian American inspired dishes for a satisfying meal.

"Rocco's Café is named for Rocco Coscarelli who immigrated from Northern Italy in 1920" adapted from the menu. Serving breakfast, lunch, gourmet coffees, and spirits, Rocco's has been serving the patrons of SOMA in San Francisco since 1990. While walking home this morning, I stumbled upon this gem. I was immediately drawn in by the delicious smell from the street. I was delighted to enter into a collections of vintage decor, oldies music, and an open concept kitchen for a true diner vibe. I was immediately greeted by the waitress who was friendly. I had the French Toast and a latte which was delicious. The portions were generous and I left very full. Overall I truly loved everything about this place. I especially love it's close to my house. I will definitely be back! This Italian lady can't wait to try an entree.

I went for lunch, and Rocco's has casual vibes and standard fare you would expect at an Italian spot. It looked like only one server at lunch, but there weren't too many diners and plenty of seats available, so service was still great. The soup I got looked like it had exploded a bit in a microwave with how the sides were dripping with slightly dried out liquid. It didn't affect the taste and I was fine with how it looked since it came out hot. The bread is nothing special, but I appreciated the generous amount of butter to go with it. The half order of the chicken parmesan was a lot for one person. The full order must be a sharable plate if the size of the half portion is anything to go by. It's a perfectly fine place for lunch if you're close by. I wouldn't go out of my way to get here.

The service was excellent. Soon after being seated a member in our party knocked over some ice tea and the serving staff were very helpful and nice about cleaning up the spill. I had the handmade burger served on a baguette with a side of fries. The meat was very good in this burger and cooked perfectly. It reminded me of the burgers they used to serve at Chow's on a baguette but a bit bigger and very flavorful, moist meat.

The fries were a shock. I could see they were dusted in a slightly red/brown savory seasoning powder but very little of this appeared to be on the fries but when I bit in, they tasted like they were dusted in SUGAR – WTF – who puts sugar on French fries! I ate some more, and they weren’t all evenly sweet, but still they tasted more like a dessert then an accompaniment to a juicy burger. I thought that maybe someone in the kitchen had filled the saltshaker with sugar instead of salt. Because our party had already spilled ice tea I didn’t want to make a deal out of it so I ate what I could, but definitely not my idea of a seasoning for French fries. Others in my party had a Cesar salad and another had a patty melt. Both the Russian dressing for the patty melt and the Cesar Salad Dressing were also sweetened beyond what we were used to for these dishes. Never had a Cesar Salad Dressing that was sweet – I mean it supposed to have some umami flavors going on sometimes from anchovies, but not sweet. Again, I think that something was up with the salt/sugar in the kitchen. I’ve eaten here once before and had a wonderful Chicken Piccata with a side salad that was dressed in ranch dressing and it definitely wasn’t sugary.

I would definitely return because I have had good food here that wasn’t strangely seasoned/too sugary in flavor, but I recommend asking the waitstaff first about the seasonings on the food you are going order, especially if you want/need to avoid sugar...

This place is kinda weird, there are all these little things about the place that made my husband and I feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed.

There is an older man walking around maskless the entire time, I think he was the owner. He kept staring at my husband and I, making us feel unwelcome. He went out of his way to talk to everybody around us but would walk by and stare at us. It was like he expected us to cause a problem or dine and dash.

The service wasn't great, the waitress was fake nice to us, but ignored us a lot. It took a long time to order our food and we were never asked if we wanted anything to drink, just given glasses of water when we first sat down.

The only person who I felt did a great job was the guy walking around making sure everyone had water, and bread baskets. He was really nice and checked on us more then our server did.

It took 30 mins after our food was ordered to get our food. About 20 mins after we had ordered, our server came by to tell us it would be out shortly, but never asked us if she could get us anything while we waited. 10 mins later we finally got our food, and honestly, not worth the wait. Nor was it worth the prices they are charging.

The two stars are for the bread and oil we were given when we first sat down. That was really good, and the man filling our water and check on us. Otherwise, I would give the place...

I cannot recommend Rocco’s enough!! We met the owner, Michael, out one night. I told him that I was on vacation and we were looking for a place that could accommodate a very large group (11 people) Micheal kindly booked us a table for the very next day! When we got in for dinner, they had a lovely long table waiting for us. Our server, Nicole, was kind, accommodating, and helpful. Micheal also came out from cooking in the kitchen to say hi to us! We started with the ricotta/bread and calamari to share which was delicious. Then we got our DELICIOUS entrees. Everyone in our group was very happy with them. I got the burrata ravioli and lemon rigatoni to share with my wife and they were to die for! Perfect portions—not so much that it was overwhelming but easily enough to be filling. We rounded out the night with desserts on the house kindly provided by Micheal. Everything was delicious especially the fresh zeppoles!! Thank you so much to Micheal and Nicole for giving us a great experience on our trip to SF! If you are looking for delicious food, friendly/family oriented services, and an iconic setting look no further...
