A very nice and clean place right on the corner of 1st Street and Market. The Melt places a strong emphasis on using all natural quality ingredients and avoiding all sorts of questionable additives in everything they serve. The interior decorations won't let you forget that. Even the fountain sodas are all natural and they're delicious by the way. Quick guide Clean ......... Yes Food ...... Safe, Tasty, Natural, Burgers'n'fries Service ...... Order at register, pick up when ready. Self serve drinks Alcohol ...... No Take out, delivery ....... Yes, yes Timeliness ......pretty fast Restrooms ..... How many? 2. Clean, gender neutral, changing tables Seating ...... Tables and chairs, also bar with stools For kids ...... Good but no special accommodations Historic ...... No The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because there are other similar places nearby that do it better in my opinion. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with The Melt except a few minor details with room for improvement. I had the Meltburger. As the name implies, it is very cheesy and melty. It is nice to see other people who understand and appreciate uncut melty cheesiness in all its glory. A+ for not going skimpy with the cheese. 🧀 The burger comes with the traditional options of lettuce, tomato, and such and a small pickle on the side. The flavors are balanced pretty well. Here are the two main problems. The patty is a little bit on the dry/overcooked side. That takes away from the flavor. At the same time, the burger is not very well composed and kind of unstable. It can't keep itself together. 😁 I'll leave the psychological evaluation to the professionals but I did have a problem with the thing falling into pieces and coming apart as I was eating it. Aside from the food, the Melt definitely gives off a chain vibe. To me that sterile generic white look feels somewhat of a mismatch with hearty, wholesome, natural goodness, which I imagine would have a connection with local farms. Maybe I've fallen behind the times, missed the point when natural local stuff was outsourced to giant far away factories for mass production to be sold in franchise chains. Not a whole lot of character.

I had to wait for a while but it was worth it. If you're going to order pickup, be ready to wait for about 10 minutes later than your ordering service says. I ordered through a service called Ritual which is one of those food ordering apps. I also saw that they accept a variety of other food ordering apps. When I walked in, I saw that there were about seven other people waiting and the employees were all scrambling to make stuff. I had to wait about five more minutes than predicted but the person in charge gave me a free drink for the wait. There was also free WiFi to help me pass the time. I ordered a three cheese classic melt, tomato soup, and cheddar bacon ranch fries. Unfortunately, I didn't get my grilled cheese croutons with the tomato soup but received two pickles (which I did not order). I didn't really care though because I had just gotten off the ferry and just wanted some hot food to warm me up. The three cheese classic melt was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've had. It wasn't too salty or oily or anything. Just a nice grilled cheese sandwich made with great ingredients. It tasted great dipped into the tomato soup. However, the cheddar bacon ranch fries were a bit too salty for me. I didn't finish it. I ordered three cheese classic melt and cheddar bacon ranch fries with "melt spice" which is some weird green powder that makes stuff taste great. The tomato soup was also great. I was satisfied and went to use the restroom. The restroom was pretty clean but could've been cleaner. It was on the better side of restrooms I've been in. Overall, four stars. I had to wait but I understand why (they're really popular) and they got my order slightly wrong, but the customer service and amenities kind of made up for it. The food was priced very well considering that it's in downtown San Francisco. There is both indoor and outdoor dining available here.

Time of review March 3, 2024 (all prices are listed based on the time of review) (I’m a private chef, I’m basing it off what you should have gotten vs what you actually get) I ordered the impossible patty melt $14.98 I’d rate it a 1 out of 5 ⭐️ - I want to start off with the caramelized onions, I can tell these weren’t done just by the look of it. Real caramelized onions have a natural sweetness to them, these onions did nothing for the sandwich. I did not taste it at all because it didn’t add any flavor, disappointing to say the least. The mustard was overpowering everything, each bite you taste the mustard. There’s no balance. The meat was okay. The vegan meat sufficed(I will say, at first I was confused on why the meat was so weird, until I noticed it was impossible meat. Oh well). The cheese was alright, no cheese pull or much flavor either. Overall very underwhelming, no flavor, just a mustard sandwich. For a $14.98 sandwich I would have expected more than what was given. Next I ordered the Melty Mac $8.49 I give this a 0 out of 5 ⭐️ - Lord, this was the worst Mac and cheese I’ve ever had in my life. When I say there was no cheese, you better believe me. It was just dry pasta with breadcrumbs on top. I’ve never been so disappointed with mac and apparently no cheese. This should just be called Mac. Last thing I tried was garlic Parmesan cheese $4.99 I give this a 5 out of 5 ⭐️ - I’ll give this credit, it was good. Crispy, garlicky and had plenty of Parmesan cheese. How it should be. Overall score : 1 out of 5 stars ⭐️ Dissatisfied and Disappointed

What a HORRIBLE & DISGUSTING experience. This location should be closed down for Health reasons!

I have asvised the SF Health Dept to conduct a thorough inspection of this location thru their Health Hotline.

Tables, floors, counters were dirty, unattented. I had to ask for a table to be cleaned (Inside) before my food was done. An employee emerged with a cloth & wiped down the table where I wanted to sit with a dirty cloth. I expected a Disinfectent spray with a papertowel or clean cloth ro clean the table. One can only guess what was on the cloth used. That same employee than disappeared into the cooking area WITHOUT cleaning the remaining tables. Every table was filthy.

This was 3.21pm in the Afternoon. Well AFTER the lunch hour rush. Including myseld, there were Five customers inside the location.

I than asked to use the Restroom to wash my hands since the disinfectent contaimer at the door was out of liquid. The bathroom was DISGUSTINGLY dirty as if it hadn't been cleaned in WEEKS. There was a liquid running from the wall of the bathroom into the hallway & right before the Bathroom door....wanna take a guess what it was???

The Staff is very Unprofessional, unattentive & more concerned with talking to each orher than maintaining a Professional attitude & Standard. Out of the Six employees behind the counter, only ONE Female employee ( looked of Older Asian decent, Pink hair) was busy restocking drinks in the cooler, making limonade drinks, etc during this time. The other Five employees were in the kitchen talking BS to each other, incl what appeared as the manager. Very Unprofessional.

ALL Self-Order Ipads were BROKEN so you had no choice but to interact with an Employee.

This location should not be painted White for its Interior. It looks Dirty & clearly shows the wear & tear of the location.

Lastly, my stomach was upset from these disqusting scenes of POOR Health & Hygeine standards, during a Pandemic, no doubt. I immediately threw my order in the trash & departed this location.

As an Entrepreneur myself, I would immediately conduct my own investigation into this location on a regular basis, as well as my other franchises. Thus, it leads me to the Conclusion that this Franchaise is poorly managed, is not concerned with Customer satisfaction nor Health standards.

A franchaise I certainly WILL NOT help maintain it's substandard performance with my visit.

I await your corrective action/s in detail, to the SF Health Dept. concerning my request for a full enquiry into your...

If 6, 7 orr 8,9,10 orr 11 stars were options for scoring, this place would bee a One Hundred. This location 1st Street & Market Street prime location for gawking. There's always action there. All of the food ordered was le magnifique created waaaaay past the specification and always making me want MOAH! By observing restaurant ops as I waited for my Six Egg Hole In One orr something like that I think it's called yes I always ouverdo it here but that's just because I always show up hungry! Lol. I have to change that puoart! If I really, anyway. And I think the ambiance is set by set by supervisor I think perhaps. Lady In Charge. The Eventide Duchess, Audrah. Audrey. This young lady is sporting some cool braids that yes, I kinda envy. Ma'am you can shleep me when you see me. Lol. I don't support violence anyway. My memory is just ayayai. But this young lady, is the embodiment of what I've always expected people on My Team to posses. Personality✔ Tenacity✔ Chutzpah✔ Initiative✔Drive✔ Professionalism. In every word. But what impressed me the most, and I DO believe that I was toucht but not surprised after seeing her handle a busy evening just her up front and a couple of people slicing and dicing was something we forget orr overlook at times, The Heart. Something happened in The Dining Room and about four orders were waiting to bee fulfilled. But as everyone's attention was being absorbed by the iPhone I just listened whilst reading, something was happening with where we go to bus ourselves&table&a questionable gentleman who maybe I would have paid close attention too. Her word constructs, the interaction, how this man received the kindness this young lady expressed in the middle of dinner whilst whimsicaly maintaining the Dining Rooms integrity & the emotional savvy backslash professional judgement call leaves me again wishing there were more people in this world like your gem. Your diamond. __. Don't worry. I will fill in this blank. And left my bird brain tired & needing a nap for I was processing.... processing.... processing. Have yourselves Fantastique lives. We shall meet again. Merry Christmas and happy...
