You ever step one foot into a restaurant and immediately feel like you made the right decision? Yemeni Kabab & Mediterranean is that spot!
The moment you step in you are met with the flavorful aromas of authentic Yemeni food, and greeted by Sami and Abdul who are the present and passionate owners. They put 100% effort into this restaurant, each plate of food served with extreme care, and they make an active effort to get to know each customer.
Overall the interior of the restaurant is beautiful, the portion sizes are huge, and the prices are extremely fair. The location is also great, super central and easy to get to by muni / BART / or walking.
Now onto the most important, the food. If you have questions about the menu Sami will guide you through and I strongly recommend you take his suggestions. We got the mezze appetizer platter, chicken haneef and the lamb kabsa. To start with the mezze platter has perfect hummus and babaganoush, salad, dolmahs, and easily the best felafel I’ve ever had. The felafel was not oily or dry at all and super addictive with the warm pitas.
Now onto the main courses where the huge portion sizes continues. The chicken haneeth is perfectly cooked and seasoned half chicken, with flavorful rice and an addictive bean salad. And the star is the lamb kabsa which is easily one of the best lamb dishes I’ve ever ate. The never ending perfectly cooked, fall of the bone lamb chunks and the rice are cooked together which soak in each others flavors.
All this washed down with their cold Egyptian lime and mint drink then finished with their aromatic Yemeni tea is easily one of the best Mediterranean meals in SF. I promise you if you take one step into this spot you’ll feel exactly like I did and you’ll love the food, I...
Read moreVisiting San Fran for the weekend and this was our “just got checked in, let’s find lunch nearby” happenstance spot. Friday, I had the Lamb Kabsa and my husband got the Half Chicken. It was delicious and so filling. It ended up being the only thing we ate all day because hours later we were still satisfied. Saturday came around and after walking and exploring we were looking to have a late night dinner while unwinding. We both ordered the Lamb Kabsa and when the delivery driver only brought one meal, the owner hand delivered a missing Lamb Kabsa to our hotel. He was so kind and explained how busy they were with orders and seemed very apologetic over the mishap. I’m not even upset that the first delivery ended up being chicken because it arrived hot, the chicken and lamb fall off the bone, and everything is delicious and packed with flavor. Funny enough I’d been debating ordering something different from Friday so fate chose for me. I wish I could bring the whole place...
Read moreWe ate here last night because it was so close to the theater, not expecting much given the tenderloin location, but absolutely loved the food and the experience. The place is nicely decorated, the service staff very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. We shared the babaghanoush (best I've ever had) and four dishes (Yemeni Kabab, Beef Kabab, Chichen Shawarma and Chicen Kabsa). Each of these was uniquely flavored and beautifully prepared. The pita seemed homemade and the rice perfect. Our only disappointment was when the theatre staff made us give up our leftovers as they were not allowed inside. They said they would give it to the homeless, so we imagine somebody got a very nice...
