Everyone around me ordered All You Can Eat which seems to be the biggest attraction for crowds but I ordered from the menu because they don’t include sashimi in AYCE. And it was very disappointing: the sashimi plate was $42 and included 6-7 kinds of fish; everything was thin cut and everything except Ono tasted stale, mushy, starchy (strange that they tasted like plain flour)— the tuna and albacore tasted so bad that I couldn’t tell them apart, they all tasted like leftover soft tofu that had been out for too long, on the edge of going bad. Ono was the only edible meat that tasted fresh like a real sashimi, despite the cut was too thin. So I would give 1 star for everything else and give 4 stars for Ono. But the server deserved 5 stars. After I told my server I didn’t think the fish was fresh and asked if I could change to Ono only, she apologized , took the plate, told the manager, made me a new plate with just Ono. Manager came to apologize also, and gave me a discount on my bill. That’s why I gave their service five stars, despite they were so busy that you had to wait a while to catch your server (for example, they forgot to give me wasabi when they first served and I had to wait to find her to get the wasabi). — Everyone else seemed to be enjoying their food, so I guess their rolls must be decent enough. But I have to say if I want sashimi again I would visit Japan town, as the first random restaurant that we picked in the middle of the J-town center served really fresh/sweet fish. Finally, their Yoki Salad (dark green leaves, carrot, and avocado) was good, the black sesame dressing was interesting, semi-sweet and tasty. BTW, I visited this place today because of all the good reviews and high rating, but now I see quite a few not-so-good reviews recently. Not sure if their food / quality changed after introducing the...
Read moreWe landed in San Fran around 7 and we’re starving. San Fran can be overwhelming with all the food options and we were getting hangry. Luckily where we were staying, the Warwick hotel, there were lots of food options in a short walking distance. The restaurant is open late thankfully, because we’re late eaters. We were sat down by the window. It’s always a good time to people watch, especially in San Fran. I ordered the Sho Chiku Bai nigori, I’m a big fan of the unfiltered sakes. For appetizers we ordered the uni scallop bites. You just order the uni scallop bites. They were fresh and delicious. It looks like a mouthful but it isn’t. Fits perfectly. The scallop was raw and tender. With the accompaniment of the salty salmon roe. This was our favorite. Second appetizer was the hamachi carpaccio. Very fresh and tender. The tomato didn’t really make sense but the tomato was good by itself. We also ordered the seafood udon. I asked if it could be made not spicy, and they said no because it came already mixed. Which was fine, it was a good flavor, just a little bit too spicy for our tastebuds. The udon noodles were amazing. Nice chewy texture . Really enjoyed all the seafood and it was packed with tons of seafood! Mussels , crab, all the best. When the dish cooled down, the spice was more tolerable. Very good dish, if they could make it not spicy it would be even more scrumptious. We also ordered three sushi rolls, the 3 amigos, heaven and jungle boogie. They were okay, nothing really too spectacular about them. That’s why I didn’t even bother getting pictures of them. Great place for the two apps. And noodles . Would come back only for those. There were quite a few people in the restaurant, it...
Read moreThey offered a wide selection on the menu, and it's easy and convenient to order from the tablet. From appetizers, nigiri, sashimi, rolls, salads, soup, and mini don.
There are some time restrictions for about 8-10 minutes on certain categories like sashimi and nigiri, but the rest of the menu has no such limits, so you can order freely.
From the appetizer section, we tried the tako wasabi, chicken karaage, takoyaki, pork katsu, and chicken katsu. The tako wasabi texture tasted a bit mushy, which I would not recommend; the rest tasted great.
We also had the poke salad and sashimi salad. The portion sizes were great, but the seasoning fell into a really strong and sweet side.
We ordered all of the sashimi carpaccio, which tasted alright, the fish texture was not as fresh as I expected, and the sauce they were using was overwhelming. I would have preferred just plain sashimi without the heavy seasoning.
We tried most of the nigiri, and the ones that impressed me the most were baby scallop nigiri; it's sweet and fresh.
I also had their salmon kama and hamachi kama; between these two, I like salmon kama better. I would say kama was the highlight of the meal since they did not put any seasoning on it, so you got to taste the natural flavor...
