First of all...the staff was excellent! From the moment we ordered all the way up until we left. We received the best service, almost felt like VIP's with attention from bar staff and Ian Tonroy (who incidently has headlined at Cheatham Street! Ask him about his music...his band is killer! Ian Tonroy & Twice Shy...new album Long Way Down on music apps)! Now, onto the food... so it's a different atmosphere that seems to cater to the lifestyle of San Marcos. You order at the counter, provide your cell number, and retrieve your food when it's ready. So it leaves you Manu options as far as seating. From inside and outside downstairs as well as upstairs. There us a nacho bar where you get your own chips and salsa as well as Pico, cheese and sour cream. Bars are located downstairs and upstairs as well. We had the salamander nachos and their tater tot appetizers. Both items together were enough for me and my wife to share and feel like we had enough to eat. You can see, and taste, right away there is a freshness to the food and the ingredients used. The chips are great as well, coming homemade from a location in San Antonio. We truly enjoyed the food. And the atmosphere is lively and very colorful. We will be returning...this is bar far and away better then our visit to a local competitor (that received 1 β...industry). Highly recommend Blind Salamander!
I will add, if reading through the reviews, a majority of those not in favor are likely college age based on the location and local city population of the immediate area. I'm a huge reviewer of restraints with a long history of cooking. I'm sure experiences will vary, but we enjoyed the visit without question. (Parents of 5 and close...
Β Β Β Read moreI understand this place has been open less than 3 months but... yikes. The food was so not worth it. Abby, our "server" but not really a server because nobody leaves behind the counter, completely forgot to put in half of our order and was not welcoming at all. We tried to engage with her and ask "hey so it's our first time here, what would you recommend?! What's your favorite taco?" to try and lighten the mood and she responded "ummm the chicken fajita taco I guess? I don't know, I only eat chicken" with the most snarky attitude I've ever experienced as a patron. The service was so subpar, but I get this is a college town so, whatever. We ordered a pitcher of a regular margarita which was 90% sour mix and we didn't even drink more than half of a cup. The "queso" is literally baseball stadium nacho cheese - and not worth the price. Because I didn't get my food and didn't want to deal with ordering it, I tried my boyfriend's taco and it was super salty, cold, and looked like a bird picked through it. All in all, our expectations aren't even high and this place couldn't even hold a candle to fast food. Super bummed out, because we were looking forward to this place and couldn't...
Β Β Β Read moreWe popped in for a bit to eat after our hike and during the mermaid festival. π§ββοΈ The street tacos are a perfect eat for a small snack. We had the beef and chicken fajita. I wasn't crazy about the nachos they are real simple chips, melted cheese with Pico, and a meat topping. I'm used to beans and cheese with a meat topping to be slightly disappointed for not paying attention to the menu. I was hungry. However, i was not hungry enough to eat the nachos. π€·ββοΈ Thankful for the street tacos ππ Now they have chips and salsa bar, not a recommendation unless you're a drinker, you won't be bothered by them. Salsa tasted reside like it was going bad and wasn't spicy at all. It was more like pace picante sauce. As far as drink go, I wouldn't know if I didn't have any. However, my friends seem to be content. Oh, we certainly enjoyed the swing seats at the bar. Would I recommend not really. It's a cool spot if you're a drinker and don't really mind the quality of the food. It's not a spot I would be...
