I started cooking in 1968, went to Rome, Grand hotel for 6 months apprenticeship 1975, I'm certified, ran 4 star restaurant for a long time. I'm critical about food I have to pay for. Ace Cafe's menu didn't leave much for me to choose from, my buddy said ribs, so we ordered them. Very difficult to cut, the sauce wasn't to my liking with no other choices. We also had an appetizer with fries, some cheese??? Didn't know what it was my friend ordered it, it wasnt impressive, fries were good but I didn't know "what" this dish was. Had desserts, cheesecakes in a jar, nothing exceptional. Bill was $100, left a 20 percent tip, server was very nice. I would probably not go back to eat there, other than to try a burger as nothing else on menu appealed to me. The environment was very nice, well thought out, but the food industry is so overly competitive people loose focus & overthink menus. I like the simplicity of having a small menu, but when doing so, everything on the menu should be exceptional which I didn't find at Ace. Your guys should have 6 or 7 entrees that no one else can duplicate and matches the restaurants theme, and capitalize on that, I'll go back and...
Read moreWent into Ace Cafe and left with mixed thoughts. Our server was awesome and the food was very good , no complaints there. But the rest of it felt a little off.
With it being Ace and having two bars, I expected some standout signature drinks or bartenders that could serve up great mixed drinks, but the mixed drinks were some of the worst we have had in a long time. We ended up switching to beer and wine instead. The beer was decent, though not quite cold enough from the tap, and the wine selection was almost nonexistent, just a few cheap options that weren’t very good.
The layout is odd and echoey, especially near the big screen in the back, and overall it just lacks personality, reminded me more of a cafeteria or even The Barn or The Alley if they decided to serve food, throw in some IKEA chairs, and call it a day. It feels unfinished and surprisingly bland.
As mentioned before, the food we tried was good, even with the limited menu. New openings take time, and I hope Ace finds its place, but between the poorly made drinks, the strange layout and atmosphere, it’s not quite enough to make...
Read moreDespite not being a biker, I decided to check this place out when I noticed that they had poutine on their menu, and it definitely satisfied my craving! I sat at the bar and was greeted promptly, and since I knew what I wanted, I was able to order within 2 min of being seated, and my food was prepared and handed to me in less than 10 minutes. I ordered the poutine with extra cheese, and when I received my order, I was disappointed by the amount of cheese I received, so I mentioned it to my server, and she immediately went and got me a plate of extra cheese curds to add, which I appreciated. The fries were piping hot, crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside, the gravy had a nice thickness to it, and the onions in the gravy gave it an...
