Thank you PRBJ for allowing us to adopt Lilly, the 5+yr old yellow lab – she is absolutely perfect in every way! From the start of filling out the application online, going to the facility to meet Lilly and take her out for “Dog for a Day” prior to signing on the dotted adoption line, and finally making her part of our family, it was a very smooth and pain free process! We have known about PRBJ for decades now, and didn’t even bother looking at any reviews because we know what Judy and her Staff do, and it certainly isn’t easy! They pull animals from shelters, or as in our case- taking back pets they previously adopted out – and finding them loving homes is taxing -emotionally, physically and financially. I can’t understand all of the negative reviews – except that most seem to come from people who were denied. The lessons to be learned by the “One Star” people (aka as “snowflakes” in today’s world) is #1: don’t lie on your application! To the guy that felt the application was prying into his business and stated he owned his home, when in fact his mother did – you lied! Will you also lie about using Heartworm prevention on a dog or allowing a cat to roam free? To the young folks and/or college students who can’t seem to comprehend that PRBJ wants what is best for the animal in question and wants the adopter to be the forever home, therefore requiring a minimum age for the adopter. Young people and/or students move around a lot until the age of 25+ --- roommate situations change (pet allergies by the new roommate, if you are gone 10hrs per day at work, will your roommate walk your dog for you or clean the litter box for you or clean up accidents in the home?) , apartments and rules change (no pets, breed/weight restrictions), and work schedules change (8+ hours away from home makes it very difficult for many dogs to “hold it”). If you are turned off by the requirements of PRBJ, look into other rescues – you’ll find a lot have the same requirements and ask the same questions. You’ll find the adoption fees are in line with most other rescues. Look at it this way – if you adopt a Persian kitten for $350 –the funds in excess of the rescue’s vetting cost will go to offset costs on the dog/cat they just acquired with bb gun pellets, dentals needed, broken bones, parvo, etc. Rescues don’t get rich despite what naysayers think! If you can’t handle the questions, the “prying” (aka “concerns” for the future of the pet) or the adoption expense, please consider going to the county shelter – adopt and save a life! Wishing PRBJ continued success for decades to come!

This rescue center is owned/managed but an amazing Woman. Judy is a powerful animal advocate. She has a passion to protect them and I’m so proud to be able to be part of their volunteer group. Animals are really taking good care of in here. I totally recommend this rescue center if you want to adopt, foster or even volunteer and help the cats and doggies. They also create lots of events to promote adoptions so feel free to check their social media page for dates.

I had recently adopted a dog from here. I had her for four days. The first day she was sick so I assumed it was because she was a puppy. Then going on into the following days she just got worse more pooping and vomiting and not regular puppy pooping because I had a bully and she had three litters and I had a Yorkie who had 4 litters and all home birthed... I also helped birth and nurse my brother's puppies at home from his bully... so I know puppies and high end dogs that need a lot of care and special attention.. I am not new to this so I knew it was NOT normal. All the puppies I mentioned I had in my care at some point.. ALL of them are now grown and thriving. The dog I adopted was a lab retriever mix so not really a high end dog that needs special care it's kind of a dog you can almost just feed and take outside for runs and it will be Fine. I decided to fill out a buyers protection form on PayPal because that is how I paid JUDY.... I said they wouldn't refund me only because THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT THE CONTRACT SAYS ON THE FIRST LINE LMAO. SO what I did was fill the form out expressing why I deserve a refund and what they do is send it to Judy and she is supposed to call me and discuss why and what we can do moving forward.... JUDY IS ACTUALLY CRAZY... her staff is rude and working for her proves what type of person they are. Anywhom.. SO Judy reaches out to me basically saying she's concerned as to why I put the document and that to bring the dog back and she will refund me so I'm like okay sure I'll bring her today and that's after she threatened to take me to court or we can do it the right way LMAO. OK so now I bring the dog the lady at the front desk is basically telling me the dogs not sick and Judy's upset so basically calling me a liar but I didn't have time for the BS so I just said yup understandable because I'm not delusional LOL. so I forget to bring back the dogs records so I said i would bring them back the next day which they were okay with.. so next day I brought the records lady at desk was chill as me and my husband were about to leave, This hag Judy decided to try and check me saying I was wrong for what I did and basically called me broke saying I coukdnt afford her care or the pet deposit at my LUXURY apartment which is crazy cause my wedding ring alone is 5k LMAO please anyway, I let her talk her shit and then after shes done I take my arm off the door at her place of work and I try closing the door for her and she starts screaming like a crazy lady get out get out I'm like Judy I'm closing the door for you..... she locked the door .. THEN I'm walking to the car with my husband I'm talking to him my shit you know cause who is she?? She walks out legit 5 seconds later knowing her ass wants to start trouble with CUSTOMERS!!!!!!! so I say something to her and tell her dont ever disrespect me and shes delulu and I tell her to basically not call me broke and that shes old so she don't even believe her own words. AND they refuse to believe she's sick actually judy said at the door previously wanna see the SHIT? cause I said she was popping and so I called her ass a b1tch outside cause called me a little b1tch. then she walked up to ME outside and she tried putting her finger in my face but who the hell does Mrs. Puff think she is so I got right in her face and said I have the proof of her being sick and she doesn't even know how my community works and she said she called my school this lady is weird cause she do not even know where I go to school at LMFAO so basically I said do not disrespect me she said you don't know how much I'm gonna disrespect you so I took that as a threat because what do you mean ?? so i told her show me how? and she said she was gonna call the cops even though we were on the street anyways that sums it up this place is horrible good luck. Judy you're weird bye. ''BTW since she is ITALIAN she thinks she can disrespect you and can get away with it and being an elderly being.''...

There are many words to describe my adoption experience with Pet Rescue by Judy, none of them positive. I had originally heard from them from a coworker and had heard good things, which is why I'd initially considered them at all. When we decided to add a second dog to the family, they were one of many rescues we considered, but after hearing that they were clearing some puppies of a certain breed that I had fallen in love with for adoption right when we were ready to adopt, my decision was made. We went through the pre-screening process which I was actually pleased to find was quite thorough. We met our new addition with our existing dog present (something that we were instructed to do by our adoption pre-screener but somehow the volunteers at the rescue were surprised when we showed up with our current dog) and they got along very well. We got to the stage where we agreed to adopt her, and that's when things started to go downhill. We were told that the puppy had "a bit of a cold," or something to that effect and that she was on antibiotics. Great, no problem, since I'm going to take her to the vet first thing the following day in any case and our current dog is much older, quite healthy, and of course current on his vaccinations. I also foolishly assumed that the new puppy had been on her antibiotics for at least 24 hours, since she has already been spayed and this of course didn't happen yesterday if she'd been cleared for adoption, meaning that she'd last seen a vet more than 24 hours ago and this same vet must have prescribed her antibiotics. She was also incredibly emaciated, but I figured she'd been a more recent rescue and didn't think much of it, other than we would be glad to feed her and get her to a healthy weight. We were given some take home medication for her, paid our fee, and were on our way. That night, this poor, tiny, emaciated puppy was struggling to breathe through this awful green mucus in her nose and throat. We almost had to take her to the emergency vet and instead compromised by sleeping in turns to be awake with her. The next day, my vet assessed her and I was told she had an upper respiratory infection. The medication course we had been given for her hadn't been started until I gave her the first dose the night we brought her home, judging by the number of pills in the bottle and also wasn't the medication it was labeled as, according to my vet. We still have no idea what that motley collection of pills even was, but I was given it by the "rescue" to feed to this tiny puppy. Our newest addition was about half the weight she should have been and PRBJ was off on her age estimate by about two months most likely, making her all the more grossly under weight. She was covered in fleas, had a tapeworm, an upper respiratory infection that wasn't even being treated, and a skin infection. We also came to find out after reviewing her paperwork that PRBJ had her for almost a month before we adopted her and had declined her take home medication at the time of her spay. I am so incredibly infuriated by the absolute lack of concern this so-called "rescue" showed for the health and welfare of this sweet and wonderful puppy, and I am just thankful that we were able to get her out of this hellhole. I am only posting this review anonymously for fear of some kind of retribution from PRBJ based on prior comments. This place should absolutely, 100%, be shut down. For me, it isn't a question of money spent getting our new dog healthy (although this is probably well in the neighborhood of $1,000, but it was well worth it and she is absolutely thriving now), I do think that people should be aware that this rescue keeps animals in such appalling conditions. Review was edited to include the cost of vetting our new puppy to the point where she is 100% healthy and happy...

EDIT AFTER RESPONSE FROM OWNER: Hi Judy, I appreciate you responding to my post. Although, I find your response very disingenuous to say the least. I am not complaining about not being able to adopt a puppy, I actually had prior reservations against adopting a puppy or a lab for the reasons you stated, I communicated these concerns to your staff upfront multiple times and was some how paired up with a puppy lab anyways because I was told a puppy would be easier to introduce to my cats.

Not only was this the case with your student volunteers but also your full time employees, Carrol was actually in the room helping me fill out my adoption contract, while knowing my full schedule and concerns. My only complaint was strictly regarding your organizational processes and I very much doubt your ability to manage as such.

Also, the place that I adopted my dog from was also a "no-kill animal shelter" and it was still half the price, almost every other pet rescue is the same way.

My girlfriend and I decided to attend pet rescue by Judy’s adopt-a-thon event. To be more prepared and save time we did an application in advance. The day the application was submitted we received follow up from Carrol, we then answered her questions, our landlord was contacted and everything checked out okay.

The next day we went into the adopt-a-thon, as we came in we were greeted and informed the employees that we already submitted an application. They asked what kind of dog we were looking for, we informed the staff about our work schedule and asked them what kind was best. We were then put with a highschool aged employee to show us the dogs. She asked again what kind of dog we were interested in, we told her our work schedule and asked her what was best for us. We ended up being shown an adorable lab puppy and fell in love. We went to a room to get one on one interaction and decided to adopt. We were then asked again by the same staff that pulled our application up earlier if we filled out an application, we told them yes. As we were finalizing the paperwork, Judy the owner, asked us a third time if we filled out an application, we told her yes for the third time. After that, she asked for our work schedule, we told her the same thing we had repeated to every employee we spoke to, that we have 9-5 jobs. She then stated that we could not adopt a puppy with our work schedule, this was after we stated our work schedule over two times to every single employee that showed us the dogs and matched us up with the lab we were in the process of adopting.

If you are looking to adopt, I would recommend going to literally any other animal shelter before going to this rescue. This organization is very unorganized and poorly managed.

After leaving pet rescue by Judy, we went to a different organization and adopted a dog suiting our needs that was much better handled for literally half the price. I completely understand why a puppy is not good for a couple that is gone 8 hours a day, but I wish someone could have told us this since we openly shared all of this information multiple times with every employee we interacted with. I do not understand why we were paired up or even shown puppies in the first place. I do not understand why this was only shared while we were finalizing the adoption. Anyways, I have adopted multiple animals and never seen this poor administrative processes, especially for the prices. I would encourage you to explore other option before even considering pet...
