Our daughter wanted a Santa Barbara wedding so we started to looking for ceremony and reception venues. We visited locations from the beach to golf courses looking for the perfect spot. Upon meeting Troy and seeing El Paseo for the first time, my daughter new she had found the perfect spot.
The Spanish style of the restaurant and surrounding area made for a fairy tale setting for the reception of about 90. I had assumed the fare for the wedding would be typical Mexican style food and being from SO CAL that would have been fine with us. This was most definitely not the case. The menu options were awesome and a huge variety of regional foods and numerous vegetarian options.
Our daughter and her husband-to-be sat down with Chef Alex and picked a menu that suited them and would satisfy a wide variety of tastes. Hors d'oeuvre included sliders, that kept disappearing as fast as they could bring them out, to small bites that included Poke, carnitas and street corn. The buffet style dinner included the best salad I have ever had, Mahi Mahi, and steak plus rice and veggies. The food was delicious and plentiful. What we really appreciated was how when the bride and groom arrived after taking photos for an hour, they were met outside by the staff with champagne and a plate of hors d'oeuvres. Later Troy made sure the bride and groom received their own plated meals so they eat and get the party going.
We were fortunate that Troy had a Sunday afternoon/evening in June available (we had only started looking in January). Troy, Chef Alex and the rest of the staff (especially those behind the bar) made our daughter's wedding one of the best...
Read moreThe worse dining experience ever. From start to finish not good. We had a group of 14 and everyone reported that the food was below average. I ordered the steak fajitas. And after a couple of bites I was unimpressed. The waitress approached the table and asked me how was everything. I let her know that unfortunately the steak was bland and tasteless. Not good at all. She went to the manager Victor Hernandez who approached us and apologizes, he grabs the plate and takes it to the back. Within seconds he returns and proceeds to tell me that he had tried it and it tasted fine to him. I was mortified !! For starters, I couldn’t believe that he would taste it from my plate and then he had no shame to tell me his opinion on it. I responded “Well, I’m the customer paying for it and I disagree.” He brings the plate back with a little cup of seasoning salt on the side and walks away. Needless to say, by this time I had already loss my appetite and left the restaurant without consuming the rest of it. My family are natives of Santa Barbara and going forward this experience will be passed on to our friends and family. Oh, I almost forgot the birthday cake was amazing and delicious !! I purchased it from...
