Capital Coal Neighborhood Eatery is now fully OPEN in downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico! @capitalcoalneighborhoodeatery is a micro-food hall offering several concepts at one location. Order your food from one central spot and everything is open the same hours. The concepts inside include Frenchie’s Dips and Tots, Richie B’s Hot Chicken, Santa Fe Salad Company, Kimchi’s Korean BBQ, and Sweetjars. As of a few weeks ago they also opened a Champagne and Charcuterie bar! With my food sensitivities (egg, gluten, dairy) I’m limited to the options from Santa Fe Salad Co and the Bibimbap (without the egg) from Kimchi’s Korean BBQ — which I’ve had twice and really enjoyed! There are no allergen labels on the menus but the staff is good about making recommendations. My friends rave about the Classic Dip sandwich at Frenchie’s, and thr Hot Fried Chicken Tender and Southern Baked Mac & Cheese from Richie B’s. If you’ve been, what do you recommend? Last fall they were open only for pop-ups, but as of mid-December Capital Coal has officially opened all its core concepts. You can find them at 326 S Guadalupe St, in the building that was previously the Zia Diner and Cafe Sonder. Let's get the rant out of the way about Santa Fe's restaurants: prices have gotten really expensive, food quality and portions have gone down, and the service is still bad. Take Capital Coal for example, good concept poor execution. Five different menus coming out of the same kitchen, branded as unique and different flavor profiles with special sauce combos. Cool idea except when you only have one cook, one food prep, and one cashier doubling as server and drink distributor. Problematic when it's lunch hour and the line is nearly out the door. Pricing is expensive for spiced up comfort food. Seriously, $15 for chicken tenders laying on a piece of overly salty Texas toast smothered in pickles? I'm out. I'm out on slow service, so-so food, and outrageous prices. Santa Fe, you're making it hard.

We originally were looking for the Poke Bowls since we discovered that they were bringing them here, however they weren’t up and running just yet. I ordered a Philly and it was spot on the best I’ve ever had! Chef Dakota pays attention to details! The place is bright, colorful and playful! There are games scattered around the tables to bring some extra added fun to the experience. The beer selection was awesome, we definitely had a great experience here from start to finish!

Capital Cole is one of my favorite restaurants. So I am a little bit biased when giving my review.

What I love about this place is that you can take all of the time you want to think about what you want from their menus. It's got that food cafeteria feel.

The food is amazing. I've never had a dish that I wasn't just over the Moon about. My favorite thing is that their menus are really diverse. If you want something simple, they've got their chicken fried menu, if you're looking for something a little spicier, they have their Korean Street barbecue food, and last but not least if you really want to send it they have an amazing list of dip sandwiches. The only menu I have a beef with is the salad menu, spending $14 to $16 in a salad plus five additional for a protein. Feels a little excessive. I'd love to see that price change, but other than that I can't speak negatively to the menu.

As for service, everybody's friendly and willing to answer questions. They offer specials on select Thursdays and Fridays, I've yet to try those but I'm very excited.

It's one of those self-service places, so don't be an asshat and bus your own table. I know for some of those middle to upper class folk that might be a hard task but just do it. The place is great. The food is nice and you can be in and out in 30 minutes depending on what you're trying to eat.

As for the atmosphere, it's not bad. Open seating and choosing your own table, my only issue is the art on the walls is all food themed but kind of fever dreamed. I don't mind that but I don't love it so there's that.

At the end of the day I'm just an opinionated human being about food. This place is food is absolutely on point. I feel like most anyone could eat something from here regardless of what walk of life they come from.

As I continue filling out this review, the menu that they have on Google for the review is very limited. I'd recommend anything on the menu. That sounds good to you....

I was so excited to go there for the first time after Alex de Vore’s article really inspired me. Great atmosphere, laid-back patio, but the food was terrible. I ordered a kimchi quesadilla and a kicmchi tacodillo. it was the saltiest food I think I’ve ever eaten in my life and I could barely finish it. I was too embarrassed to go back to the counter after spending $34. I felt like I had been robbed of my money. I will not be going back as I cannot trust spending that much money for meals that I tolerated.. My recommendation to the famous chef and novel concept that you tune down the salt and the intensity of the kimchi because it absolutely overwhelmed the beauty and preparation of the food. The menu is amazing and I really wish to return, but that would require a...
