Iconik Coffee Roasters, Lupe — Restaurant in Santa Fe

• Tldr: be careful here if you have any food allergies! *

I’m a regular and have always spoken very highly of iconik and will continue to do so- I sincerely hope that I can change this rating asap to be better.

That being said, I have a severe reaction to lactose and dairy in any amount, so I always order my drink with oat milk. I specifically don’t drink oat milk at home so that I don’t get used to the taste and therefore can always have peace of mind when I order drinks. I’ve been a barista before and I know it can be nerve wracking to have a customer watching you make their drink, so I do everything I can to make sure that the experience is good for myself and the barista. Today, at around 10am, I ordered a drink with oat milk as always and when I got it I couldn’t taste the oat milk. I was worried but I didn’t react right away because I know that in the past I’ve gotten used to the taste and been unable to detect it. After about 10 minutes I started to feel a bit sick, so I went to ask the barista if they remembered what milk they used in my drink and they gave me an annoyed look and said that they “don’t even remember my drink” as if it was ridiculous of me to ask. I understand that these questions can be annoying, and I’m sure they were just having a bad day and are a lovely person- but it could have become a very severe situation for me and could for others too. I don’t expect baristas to remember every single drink, but when it comes to health risks I do expect more cooperation- asking me questions about the drink to see if they remember or offering accommodations, or even just saying that they don’t remember in a tone that doesn’t make me feel like I’ve done something wrong.

I am ok now, the sick feeling was most likely just a placebo effect of knowing it was a possibility. I don’t like to write negative reviews, but I worry that something like this would happen again to me or to someone who has a more severe reaction to an allergy.

Came in just a few minutes after opening. Kid taking the order could have cared less. I ordered cappuccinos and a half calf coffee but they didn’t have decaf coffee so they added a shot of decaf espresso which was fine. However, he pushed that cup over toward the pick up area where the barista was making the rest of the order and the coffee just sat there and sat so I tried to reach for it to have some of it and my hand was practically swatted away. I was told that it wasn’t finished yet. So then it sat longer getting cold while he/she made other orders. The person who took the order didn’t ask what Size I wanted. Turns out they were dinky. The barista finally put a decaf espresso shot in the coffee and pushed it toward me. It was mediocre warm and tasted horrible. The person then made the two cappuccinos and pushed those toward me but they were not labeled. One should’ve been almond milk and half caf, but I had no idea which was which. the person mentioned which one was which, but not clearly. I tried both of them and I had no way of knowing which one was almond milk or half caffeine. But both tasted horrid and went down the drain. Awful coffee, awful cappuccino and awful service. I had dropped my car off for repair and decided to spontaneously invite a friend to breakfast. I've always adored the coffee, ambiance, decor, and staff at Iconik Lupe but never had tried the food. We ordered Eggs Florentine. They were superb! Healthy and decadent at the same time. I was thrilled that the eggs were served on hearty rye bread instead of doughy muffins. You could taste a perfect balance of butter and lemon in the velvety Hollandaise sauce. The eggs were organic! The baby spinach couldn't have been fresher and the plates were artfully presented with cherry tomato and asparagus garnishes. Delicate slivers of Parmesan pushed it over the edge in a good way. And all of this gorgeous, high quality food for such a reasonable price. Now I want to try everything on the menu. My only regret is that I had my dog with me so we couldn't sit inside and hear the tasty music they always play there.
